Humphrey played centre forward against Middlesbrough not his best position according to him Swan played deeper

 

They weren’t on the pitch at the same time .

Humphrey came off after 63 to be replaced by Kav. Bobby went off at the same time to be replaced by Swan .

At Oldham yesterday Humphrys was more central Swan to the left (Pointon position). When Humphrys went off Swan went down the middle. Tbf they linked up well at times Humphrys is the powerhouse and Swan the quick in behind striker. If they hit it off then we could potentially have a good strike force.

 

I know what you're saying regarding Humphrys holding on to the ball longer than needed but thought his strength and agility he has will be a big plus and he doesn't half have some power when he gets a proper strike on the ball. As for swan he looks like the type of player who plays on the last defender really well. He got behind the defenders a few times with his awareness and pace. I think if they click we could see a good partnership developing.

 

Interesting comment from Humphrys when asked about the goal. He said he made a few runs and didn’t receive the ball, so when he had it he decided to go himself and it went in. There’s something about this lad and I can’t put my finger on it, but I hope he plays more for the team than himself.

 

I don't think he has played for a team that plays that we do so it's a case of getting used to what Alexander requires. He said in another interview this was the hardest pre season he has ever had which to me says he Alexander's demands of players are higher than any of us ever thought.

 

I'm heartened by the preseason.

Final product hasn't always been there, but I think we've seen it's going to be a backs-to-the-wall mentality at times this campaign.

The lads throwing themselves in front of every shot during friendly games is impressive.

We have some decent players - if we max out on effort and defensive responsibility as well, we could yet do pretty well - even against "better" sides if morale starts to decline at some of them.

 

But you have him down as an attacking midfielder for some ridicilous reason.

 

Not sure where to add this one, maybe we could have a "loan watch" thread? But anyway, Ibbitson has two goals so far for Chorley, including the only goal in their recent FA Cup win and has had his loan extended another month

 

Two months extension I think?

 

It's a 2 month extension. Hopefully he starts getting some gametime there now he's been extended, as up until the weekends cup match he hadn't started a game and was just having 20 minute cameos off the bench. Although the 2 lads they have up top starting for Chorley have 7 goals and 2 assists in 8 games between them, so Harry might be on the bench for most games I'd say.

 

There was lots of fans worried that goals would be a problem this season - couldn't be further from the truth!

Swan firing, Cook returning, Humphrys a decent option and now Powell giving us further options. We still have Kavanagh to turn to at some point. Its looking very healthy and looks like a very decent quintet of Forward options.

And add to that Bobby adding goals to his game...

 

I don't know whether we'll get the ball in the net more than last season but we have more attacking edge than last season and I feel more confident that we'll make more chances than last season. It feels like we have more attacking potential and more ways of trying to score goals.

Being picky, I'd like to see more dangerous free kicks or corners. We don't seem to create a lot of chances from these still.

 

Though we had lots of the ball and created many chances in the second half of the 'udders game, we failed to score, which is a little concerning. We are more productive on the counter attack it seems.
Regarding set pieces, we don't really have a target man except Cook, whom I don't think will fit the pressing game. We can cross a ball as shown in the Grimsby game but who else is able to capitalise?.. I don't know.
Have we actually scored from a set piece this season?.
