Spotted that Colin Doyle has decided to hang up his gloves. He will remain as the goalkeeping coach. I also notice that he often seems to prepare players before they are substituted on, armed with what looks like an i-pad/tablet. So I would assume technical details. Always thought he was a decent ‘unfussy’ keeper who served City well and was part of the 21st century ‘nearly team’. Wish him well and look forward to his, on the sidelines, involvement. https://www.bradfordcityafc.com/news/2025/july/16/doyle-announces-retirement/

He will always be remembered fondly. That season of 16/17 is still one of my favourite seasons of this century. I've just watched a few highlights from that season on YouTube for nostalgia, and I forget just how good we were, but we missed so many chances. I watched the League One playoffs this season, and our passing game was well above anything I saw, we just lacked a bit of pace and athleticism. Glad he's staying on as a coach.

Big Nev in his pomp was indeed one of the best Keepers in this country if not further afield. It was unfortunate that he had to be drafted in when our first choice fell down the stairs on the morning of the game if memory serves... A class act, but that day he had the physique of Big Daddy at best. Legend.

Still remember against Leeds their player smashing a shot on target and big Nev catching it with one hand!

Clearly he wasn't mobile enough and shouldn't have been in that position of having to play but there was still the odd glimpse of that natural talent that he'll never lose.

Now I’m not going to go all Google but I’m sure I saw him playing for Bury at VP and he was different class even then.

I totally agree. The picture I posted was of someone well past his excellent prime. Undoubtedly he was a great keeper on his day. I want to be totally clear I am not critical whatsoever of his brilliant career. However photographs of Nev, playing for City, that is the one that is one l have shown, picture a guy who is well and truly past his best. Sadly that is an enduring memory of his time at City.

I was looking at his career and didn't realise he had only played 182 games. Such is the life of a mainly backup keeper.

Fair play to him though, when i've seen him play he's looked good even as an older player. Hope he enjoys the coaching.

There's a great article about his time at Birmingham City on "Blues Focus"
