Hopefully it will work out for us, I'll reserve judgement to much later in the season, at the moment I'm hopeful, and pleasantly surprised.
He certainly made a difference in the last few games of the season.
Apparently he's talking to Jamie Walker, any good, or an early one for the 'has been' bin?

Jamie is very good on his day and will do a great job next season on your quest to return to the league. Hope Hughes does the job for you because he is a great guy even though his possession game was boring. Best of luck

Well done on securing Mark Hughes to lead you into your non league journey.

As for Jamie Walker, he would be a cracking signing for you, too good for non league in my opinion. I thought he would end up at Harrogate, still might as he has talks lined up there too.

No doubt you will be able to offer better terms than Harrogate if you could tempt him to move away from Bingley, where his family are very settled, despite being from Scotland.

I read earlier that you have sacked Greg Abbott at last. Great guy and still fondly remembered as a player here in the 80's. However, his recruitment track record leaves a lot to be desired. Cannot see him getting another gig at professional level.

Good news that, I was hoping he'd stay.

    Good luck to you.

Jamie Walker is extremely hard working and committed, and has won us a couple of games each season. Should be a quality signing for NPL if you use him right.

    Couldn’t give a castlemaine 4 x

Abysmal football , boring predictable play despite reaching the play offs one of the most tedious managers we’ve had they won’t bounce back with him in charge and I’m pleased after som of the vitriol aimed at us few years ago fkem

Jamie walker though all the best

not sure about Jamie Walker, hasn't really done much this season and looked off the pace recently against Chesterfield, I think age has caught up with him a bit, I wouldn't get too excited tbh.

    Good luck to Carlisle tho.

I know why this sentiment exists, but I've seen predictable teams walk leagues before.

There's no correct way to play footy, and Hughes should be good enough to guide Carlisle to a playoff place minimum.

Sorry but your fooked if you think he will get you back into the league .........................did very well for us during the few months he was at the helm before he went into full seasons and put his own negative boring head scratching brand on his football ..........still the man should be hero in giving you a helping hand in getting out of league 2 ............. .

Unfortunately he will always be remembered for “that substitution”

Anyway shouldn't this thread be moved ? Its got nothing to do with current City affairs

Hughes won zero as a manager that wont change with his tactics and out of date views , he will bring some of his mates with him for a final pay day .

With the right players not square pegged into round holes he could make it work . I seem to think watching Carlisle at the back end he had dropped that stupid endless playing around the back nonsense?,

Jamie Walker will do well, as long as he gives you a consistent run without injury. Mark Hughes - NL will be a new venture and you’re there to be shot as a ‘big club’. Good luck.

Both Mark and Jamie are good blokes, hope they both do well. I'd be surprised if Hughes is the type of manager to have success in the NL, but with Carlisle's budget and most of the bigger teams long gone out of that level he should have a chance. If Jamie can stay injury free, he should be too good for that level.

    My honest take on Mark Hughes;

In his only full season in charge of us, he took us to to Extra-Time in a Play-off Semi-Final. That surely counts for something. Yes the football was dire but he almost got us to a Play-Off final so he's not the worst we've had, in fact he's probably in the upper echelons of recent managers we've had. With the right backing and patience with the potentially dour football on offer he'll run you close to promotion.

One of the major drawbacks for me was that he gave the impression being in charge of us was more like a hobby, bit of fun winding down towards retirement rather than a serious, dedicated, hard-work driven motivated manager of a professional football league club. A lot of messing around doing keepy-uppies on the touchline when the ball lands to him then taking plaudits from the crowd, this in the latter stages of a match when we're chasing promotion. Doing punditry on TV the day before a big match when we're chasing promotion. He gave the feel of a man who was in it half-heartedly and that didn't sit well with me personally.

Another Carlisle fan here. With Greg Abbot gone just wondering who Hughes used while at Bradford for recruitment and coaching staff?
Glyn Hodges here also but only a short term GK coach

best of luck back in L1

Stephen Gent is our Head of Recruitment. Hughes interviewed him and was part of the process of bringing him in.

Can't see Gent leaving after promotion.

Maybe he should have gone with MH . He’s had a mixed bag of recruiting but certainly not on the same basement plain as Abbott. They, like us need proper scouts not a bloody data analyst who play with numbers , which is what Carlisle recruited alongside Russ?

How much was dictated by the budget? No surprise that we increase our budget and we recruit better players.
