I don't think you can infer anything from those two occurrences by themselves.
As you mention, loads of other factors, including injuries to key players, good loan recruitment versus poor loan recruitment in the January window. Impossible to definitively say what the reasons are.

 

I think we can say that our recruitment helped us get over the line. We had all sorts of injuries and suspensions to deal with but we got through to scrape promotion.

The Jan arrivals - some more than others - played their part. Even Tommy Leigh, who by his own admission has struggled, setup the goal with his floated pass that was knocked down into Lapslie’s path.

Lapslie scored some key goals and stepped up when we needed him to. Despite having to wait patiently initially.

Mellon scores the late winner in the attritional game at Salford.

Tayo was like a rocket down the left and solved a problem area for us.

Khela had some good games in midfield and won MOM etc.

I think we’d have probably won the division had Cook been fit, but c’est la vie.

Crichlow and Benn also played their part.

The Jan recruitment enabled GA to be flexible - some might say too flexible at times. Ultimately, we got over the line.
