Anyone worried about the goalkeeping situation becoming a slight problem?

Sam walker is fairly competent keeper at this level but we are twelve games in and there are probably 4 or 5 goals already where you could argue he was culpable or "should have done better" with.

I just hope we aren't getting into a harry Lewis type situation, where a lack of competition is causing a loss of focus and edge in Walkers standard's.

He hadn't played regular first team football for 6 years before joining and had only ever been first choice at Colchester in his entire career. I'm really not sure what everyone expected but surely no one expected a significant upgrade?

I was honestly shocked at how over rated he was last season where presumably people were just happy it was no longer Lewis making errors.

Someone on here said he was the best keeper in the division which made me laugh. He is no where near. He can barely dive for starters.
He’s solid for this level but he’s nothing special and certainly isn’t the best keeper in the league.

He commands his box a lot better than Lewis did, but not convinced overall.

Bonkers that we didn't bring in another keeper to challenge him. Doyle just there to make up the numbers on the bench and will never be picked for a league game.

A loss something sways people's thinking. I think he can do better with the first yesterday but generally he's done a decent enough job for us in his time here. Could do with a decent back up if he gets injured but keeper isn't a priority for us.

Everyone is decent in a City and that’s why we are a midtable div 2 team.. Just decent at being shite.

    Fans seems happy with that.

Seriously, vast improvements in positions are required in Jan or forget about even the play offs.

100%. Walker is a better keeper than Lewis, and perfectly adequate at this level. He's made countless stops this season which are being forgotten - in my eye he's made one real howler, the other couple looked worse than they were.

I agree but keeper isn't one of them. With a limited budget you have to strengthen areas we are inherently weak and that's midfield and a partner for Andy Cook.

Lewis' career has completely collapsed, Sam Walker is definitely better, but is far from one of the better keepers I've seen. Recently he's also on poor form letting in pretty easy chances.

I don't think he's so bad he's become a priority issue at the minute, though, and Phil Parkinson was pretty clear that a generally competent goalkeeper is all you need at this level. I think he is that, to be honest. Generally competent.

Walker has shown he is a perfectly capable keeper at this level. Put it this way, he won’t be the standout reason why we make promotion or not, but can definitely play his part. His performances will be indifferent, as we’ve seen, but at the end he will be likely be above average without been outstanding.

There are other areas of the pitch we need strengthen that will have a bigger contribution on the outcome of our season.

I'm not so sure. I think an excellent keeper will likely earn you plenty of points on his own. Getting one however, is likely very tough at this level.

Take the Cheltenham game for instance though. If Walker doesn't spill that into the net then we're already 2 points to the good.

I think Walker is perfectly fine at this level, but his mistakes have crept in compared to last season. Seems to be conceding straight at him efforts which is a worry, but I think he's a perfectly fine keeper for L2. They used to say a good keeper gets you 10 points a season, but he's conceded some questionable ones so far this season and thankfully his fumble against Carlisle didn't come back to bite us in that match. We've got some other areas we need to fill in Jan more than keeper, but it is about time we had some competition.

No outstanding goalkeepers in league2.I think the last one was that Leyton Orient keeper who went to Burnley, and got nowhere near the first team.

Walker is good enough for the level we play at.
He was not at fault for Cheltnam's equaliser and the defending for both Doncaster goals was a shambles.

Yes he absolutely was at fault for the Cheltenham goal, I agree with the Donny ones though the defending was the big concern there.

I think you are being a bit harsh there. It was hit well through a very crowded penalty area.
Why was no one marking the guy who took the shot , he had a free hit or why did not one player get his body in the way of the shot. Sam Walker will have seen it late through that crowd of players.
We also had defensive issue's around Doncaster's corners, where Bobby Pointon was left marking two players until GA had a word with Jamie Walker
All the goals conceded this week have been defensively poor from front to back.
Doncaster scored from our attacking free kick just outside their penalty area. They were first to nearly every ball we put into their box .

Yep, I probably agree, that why I said that it was incredibly hard to find one.
