Matty James would actually be a very good signing on paper. End of the season with a year extension in our favour.
Think he’s probably too good for us, but a contract is better than none

 

Yup Pattison has been a massive disappointment, a few flashes of why we went for him but another flimsy modern footballer

Cory Evans?

 

Having a player that wasn't getting in the squad and they actively tried to sell in the summer but couldn't.

 

Losing Adams, Pattison and Sarcevic, all attacking mids and bringing in Corry Evans, a DM, doesn't make much sense really? Although our deals don't make much sense really.

Evans just coming back from a really bad cruciate injury he picked up in Jan 2023, came back for the last 3 games of last season, well over a year out. Again, ticks our usual box.

 

Of course every club wants the best deal possible or make the best loan deal they can, but the way McAnthony replied to our so called offer it sounded like if he did go out on loan it would be for more than Bradford City offered.

 

Smallwood will be suspended soon and with Pattison now crocked who would have played the Smallwood role, we do need a defensive midfielder. We signed Halliday after a year out with cruciate injury and he’s been fine since.

 

Not many clubs would cope with 7 players out injured,we can make the 18 but so many defenders injured and 3 midfielders out it makes things difficult.

 

Maybe our best player, Sam Walker could cover that position and playing goalie when needed...?

If it is Evans then I think it would be more of a replacement for Pattison who was the cover for Smallwood. Assuming we go back to the 352 then we've got a few Walker, Pointon, Oduor for the no 8 position but to cover Smallwood the only option is trying Oduor. It also gives us the option to play 2 natural CMs if needed. With Smallwood on 3 yellow cards we know there it's very likely there will be a game in the next couple of months when he will be suspended so we also have to prepare for that if Pattison is out for a bit.

True on Halliday, but he had his ACL injury when he was 26, he had plenty of time to get fit and still play in his peak. Fleetwood spent money on him going out to physios in Dubai for rehab.

Evans has had a few injury issues over the recent years, but coming back from an ACL at 34 will be tough. Seems like he had complications and needed another surgery on his cruciate leading to his near year and a half out. Blackburn fans seem to think Evans also had a special training routine after his skull fracture? Can't find a thing to back that up though.

 

Clucas would be a better option IMO

 

He's had quite a lot of injury issues in the last few years as well and it was one of the reasons Rotherham decided to release him at the end of season.
