Johnson, Baldwin and Byrne are the squad fillers.

We just need those that will improve the starting 11 now. Looking forward to seeing them.

Stubbs is one who i wouldn't be surprised to see him leave. He was always in and out last season under GA, really wouldn't be shocked if we moved him on. I think he is a great defender for this level, he just is slow and has very little reliability.

GA said some nice things about having Stubbs back in the T&A.

Is anyone else suprised that we've heard no rumours at all about Jake Young? I thought we'd be fighting clubs off and half expected him to be gone

Anyone hear that we were in talks with Burton forward Josh Gordon last week? He opted to return to Walsall. 29 years old, pretty ok record at Walsall and Barrow before poor spell at Burton. Didnt do much on loan at Walsall either.

Shopping in the bargain basement and losing out to Walsall. Not a good look if true.

If we did lose out then I'm guessing it's because Walsall weren't offering him 5th choice striker role as he would be here

We've just signed someone who was part of a defence that conceded the most goals in our entire division last year. If that doesn't tell you that we're shopping in the bargain basement then nothing will!

Walsall fans saying he played as a number 10 last season so could have been an option in various places. TBH it looks like a bullet dodged, but I still feel we need another striker and it needs to be a 2nd/3rd choice type.

Do you really think Johnson isn’t going to play when available? As for Burne he and Stubbs will fight it out for the central roll

Have to say, I can understand the Nicky Byrne signing to some degree. An old head and a body - in to replace Big Ash.

But the Mike Baldwin signing really does perplex me.

Well Johnson is a RB/RWB by trade so no, he wont be taking Hallidays shirt. He will probably be squeezed in to play RCB though - rather than sign a proper quality RCB we will just get our back up RWB to play there.

Think we have even more 10s than we have strikers don't we?! Definitely a bullet dodged. It'll certainly be hard to find a striker good enough to push the other 4, or one that's half decent but doesn't mind barely playing.
Wouldn't be suprised if we're offering 1 year, cheap wages deals to a few like Gordon

Plenty of good competition in forward areas isn’t there Young and Kavanagh Smith. Is Pointon going to get a game ahead of Walker Pattison Sarcevic. Probably need one more in defensive midfield with Smallwood and Gillead. In defence there are still questions to be answered mainly because we have very little personal knowledge of the new signings except Johnson who has a good pedigree but we have seen Stubbs and Kelly to good reliable players possibly one more required in that area

So in another words yes, he will play but you're not happy about it.
I'm praying Johnson starts as a right centre half and smashes it so we can be done with this debate

Call me old fashioned but I want us to give ourselves the best chance of a top 3 finish.
Some fans just happy we signing players and have a club to support.

Ive defended this club for too long on here - benefit of the doubt, blind optimism etc. Last season was the last straw for me. Utterly fed up and I really thought we would show some real ambition this summer. Im not impressed by our business so far. It may well be good enough but it doesn't convince me.

And I think signings like Johnson are just that. There is no way you are convincing any decent right back to join us when the player of the year has just signed a new deal. We've been clever and now got a quality defender by all accounts, who can step in if god forbid Halliday is out. You can't tell me you'd rather we signed someone who's happy to benchwarm all year. We keep banging on about competition for places, Johnson is the epitome of that.

Yes I agree, I think many of us said similar at the time, Baldwin for Platt doesn’t scream upgrade to me, and in fact possibly a downgrade. Appreciate we need to see him play, but we shall see….

I am similarly concerned but I’m hanging my hat on the fact there are 6 weeks of the close season left yet and I’m sure there will be some more incomings - let’s hope one or two of them are names that can rouse some enthusiasm.

Shame he didn't engage with his partner when he was not spending the money as agreed, sorry Rahic can't take any credit for that season, it might not go down well but I'll repeat when Parky walked out after his meeting with Rahic neither Rahic or Rupp had a clue with regards Parky's replacement and got lucky when Julian recommended McCall, Rahic said they did a bit of digging and had heard of Stuart McCall being a legend at the club and offered him the job that was a load of crap we were weeks away from a new season and Rahic who caused a situation it never needed to have happened with his " I know football you have to take me seriously".

I'm not sure your reply is relevant to the my post, hence my comment Rupp & Rahic got lucky when Julian recommended McCall, as they had no one lined up and why would they as Phil Parkinson had done an excellent job during his previous 5/6 seasons at Valley Parade, with regards the squad Stuart inherited it was not as strong as I originally thought after reading your in depth reply, Stuart did a great job with recruitment during that closed season but that was not my original point ?.
