When he arrived I was a bit oblivious. I was only about 14, but I remember being down at the club shop. I had no idea it was him at the time, but he was serving /milling about behind the counter. I remember him talking to me, asking a few questions about how long I'd been a city fan, favourite memories etc. I just thought he was a nice old man being friendly. As we end the brief chat, I remember him saying to the staff, 'it's wonderful to see everyone so happy'. Remember it as clear as day. Taking the time to engage with fans in a normal, friendly, no bullsh*t kind of way.

What I wouldn't give for someone with his vision and ambition now.

My lad is 13 now. He's known nothing but crap being a city fan. Nothing. When I tell him that in the 98/99 promotion year, for most of that season we were as enjoyable to watch as the likes of Liverpool are to their fans now, destroying teams as they can, he doesn't believe me. At least I have those memories. What will he ever have?

That's true. There'll be no room for mediocrity in his inner circle, I tell you that much.

 

The one thing i can never get out of my hrad during the 98/99 is the 2-1 loss to our dog bothering friends ............... i have seen City ever batter the crap that badly out of a team and come away losing ............. how we didnt go in at half 4 to 5 goals up is beyond me.

I always slagged Richmond off for putting us in the posistion we ended up in but at least he did care unlike these lot ............ imagine Shaun Harvey doing what Sparkes is doing now under Richmond ?????

Maybe thats a fair few of us problems that we have seen what can happen with a little bit of ambition and a bit of drive rather than simply bumbling on from fook up to fook up.

 

Those pooch-prodders have always been like an recurrent attack of herpes.
I recall back in the late eighties, they were bottom of division2, and they beat us at VP 1:0 when we were pushing for promotion to division 1. Which ultimately cost us going up ( yes we also lost at home to Ipswich at end of season grrr)
Banks scored for them, and we subsequently signed him, to contribute pretty much nothing.

 

I have been highly critical of GR on this board and previous incarnations. However, what I will say is that he plucked this club out of obscurity and pushed us right into the limelight. Nobody believed him. I remember going to a supporters meeting on a warm pre season night and Geoffrey was telling us where we were heading. He was very open about his ambitions for the club. I remember thinking well this is good in terms of lifting us out of the doldrums but not for one minute did I believe we could do it. He was without doubt our most charismatic leader we have ever had.

Alexander will change stuf too many overreactions by some. We have a good team whom can play well. It's down to finding consistency taking our chances and putting in a performance for 90 minutes. We're still better than we were under Hughes.

 

In my opinion there has only been two stand out 90 minute performances I've witnessed from the TEAM this season so far, both cup games strangely enough at Wrexham and Derby respectively.
Every other game 45 minutes at best home and away others would disagree but that's my take on proceedings.
