I think you may misunderstand?
I was meaning the young lad wouldn’t get many/ any opportunities as Doyle would play if Lewis was rested / injured. Doyle would be on the bench when Lewis is playing The only way the young lad would play would be if Doyle stood down to let him play.

If we hadn’t signed Lewis then Doyle as no.1 - a safe pair of hands - would have pleased me.

but given col is here as a coach too, I’d say the only way he starts is if Lewis is injured. Even if Lewis is shaky in pre-season, Hughes would give him the benefit of the doubt in a competitive situation to start with?
