Maybe a contract did arrive as Becky specified but not in the format "with terms" as she was careful to state in her tweet. The club could be in trouble if they haven't strictly followed the FL rules or there could just be a big misunderstanding.

It is not FA rules but EFL rules. Here is a simplified version of the rules concerned (I have removed variations due to play-offs and player under 24). Clearly from these rules either a contract offer would have been made or he would have been on the released list.

65.1 Subject to the provisions of these Regulations, a Player shall be free to seek registration with any Club of his choice, on the expiry of his contract of employment.

65.2 Any Club wishing to re-engage a Contract Player whose contract is due to expire on 30th June must, save as mentioned in Regulations 65.2.1 to 65.2.4 below, notify him in writing by the third Saturday in May in the final year of his contract whether or not they offer him terms of re-engagement specifying (where applicable) such terms.

65.4 The Player must notify in writing the Club holding his registration within one month of the date on which notification of the said terms of re-engagement were sent, whether or not he accepts their offer of re-engagement. If the Player has not replied in writing to the Club's offer of re-engagement by 30th June, the offer shall automatically lapse

67.1 Every year each Club shall forward to The League no later than the deadline laid down in Regulation 65 for the notification of Players, a Club List of Players' names for registration by The League including:

67.1.1 Contract Players whose contracts are due to terminate on the next 30th June and to whom the Club has made offers of further re-engagement;

67.1.3 Contract Players whose contracts are due to terminate on the next 30th June and to whom the Club has not made offers of further re-engagement

 

Me too, hope this has been covered otherwise we'll be scrambling around for last minute bargains again.

 

Peters and Hudson have signed I believe - they are also not as important as Doyle.

Maybe we have being made aware of the availibility of a keeper so decided to go for him instead? The club have pulled out of the offer, just like Doyle could have done.

Better to get this sorted now rather than a Tony Mac or Rory repeat??

How much? How long? What was the offer? Doyle is two years older now so not worth what he was in 2016.

Having said that - it's a matter of semantics.

Wouldn't a contract only be generated once a verbal offer has been reached? If my team were issuing out contracts without agreement we'd do nothing but contracts!!!

So, yer, maybe it never arrived - technically/semantically correct - but negotiations were ongoing.

 

Reading between the line and the extract from the FA I would surmise an OFFER was made which is either agreed/ negotiated / turned down and once agreed a CONTRACT is issued.

It may be a case that an offer was made, the negotiations did not come to an amicable resolutions and so Doyle and BCAFC have parted ways.

Maybe everyone is correct an offer was made per BCAFC and T&A but contract never received per R Doyle

 

He has lost value with age and that is a fact.

McCartan plays for his country as did Adam Thompson. So what? He is their number 3 keeper.

The club haven't commented yet which makes me think they've been caught on the hop by Colin's announcement. They need to think through all the possible repercussions, especially on social media, when they make these decisions as perceptions are all important right now. I don't think Edin has grasped this and he needs to pronto.

 

Yes, I'd agree - we shouldn't really produce a contract until we've reached some agreement on some of the aspects.

 

Doyle is getting on in football terms. Sure he has a few years left but he is worthless in terms of a fee. How much would a club pay for him? £50k?

We arent talking 24-26 years old.

 

Are you a professional footballer coming into the latter stages of your career ?

I think @brisbanebantams has hit the nail on the head with his quote below about Doyle's wages, he'll have come to us on lower end Championship wages along with a signing on fee, that was 2 years ago and he's no longer in the same position, i.e contracted to another club that we have to match/improve his wage.

 

Experienced keepers still get good money as they don't burn out the same as some outfield players, the loss of reaction speed is usually made up for by better positioning and the learnt knowledge of how to deal with different situations they might face in a game.
