When will Beesley bag one for City?

I'd imagine his map will just be him and Ness cuddling.

This was the starters average positions on the pitch. Beesley on average was slightly deeper than Pointon, Phillips and Neufville.



The map including subs, Powell certainly on average further forward than Bees, Jackson the main outlet.

 

Did he have a shot on goal? When did he last have a shot on goal?

He did however, run around a lot.

 

He did have one shot on goal. Very difficult half chance from a low right wing cross which he put just wide of the near post.

 

He runs around a lot but anyone can do that. He does not hold the ball up. Does not run the channels for balls played behind defences. Does not drag defenders out of position for others to run through. Does not bully defenders. In fact none of the abilties needed to be a competant striker. Why we signed him as a striler is a mystery only GA knows

 

Getting Vadaine Oliver feels over this one. He might well work in a 442 with no possession, but when we need to grip a game or create pressure he just can't do it. He might have the odd flash but for me i just don't see the traits in Beesley that will bring some long term success.

 

It might be worth changing the poll to “Year” rather than month.

I thought this was a good signing at the time but with each passing game I'm looking more wrong. I could forgive his lack of goals if he was contributing to an attacking unit that was scoring regardless, but he isn't.

He looks clumsy and doesn’t hold the ball up well enough for someone that size. His effort is not in question but I'd sooner have Humphrys or even Swan up there who are technically better players, have some pace and are a goal threat.

 

That's quite an overreaction, you can't just ignore how well he played against Peterborough and Sheffield Wednesday for example, how he played in them games is exactly why we brought him in. Against Cambridge he had a great game and was unlucky not to get a goal.

I do think there is a lot of short term memory from some especially after Tuesday where we had 1 good performance from Humphrys then all of a sudden people saying he should be starting every match when we know how inconsistent he is. It says a lot that Alexander went for O'Keeffe off the bench rather than Humphrys, he has a long way to go to really get the trust of the manager back.

 

Still think that when Beesley gets his first goal he’ll be a different player.
His work rate is second to none.
Never stops running and always gives 100% despite his lack of goals

Well wherever he has been before he has been liked. Never been a top scorer but he works selflessly for the team. I just wish he was a bit more selfish

 

I think the match situation made him choose O’Keefe over Humphrys. If we’d been behind he’d probably have gone with Humph, to try to conjure something and produce a goal. But because we were ahead he went for O’Keefe for his greater ability to get up and down the pitch, ie to help support Touray and link with the attack.

 

Some need to find something to moan about .
Team inc Beesley keeps winning , so some not happy.
We look to have some great options other than Beesley ,which is good news for us going forward. GA will use them when he feels we need something different. A fab week for us .

 

He's had a couple of half decent games in the league that's all.. today he was useless.
We need more goals because despite our defence being very resolute so far, there will be times like the Cambridge game where we need to score more. Call me old fashioned but that's what a No 9 is for.

 

I never doubted Humphrys. The only thing that I couldn't get my head round was people being even vaguely surprised that he suddenly made us look like a team who might score some goals. Beesley's lack of goals do not concern me in the slightest. It's his lack of any real meaningful contribution bar a scruffy, bungled assist last week. He hasn't dominated a centre back, he doesn't hold the ball up, he doesn't run the channels, he isn't particularly mobile, he can't run at defenders. He's been completely ineffective so far this season. He played ok against Peterborough but apart from that he looks almost completely anonymous. If you can see something I can't then I'd accept that it's just a natural case of people seeing different things. I agree with almost everything you say on here. You're measured and rational but on this one I think you've set your stall out on Beesley and you won't budge.

 

When you’re upfront on your own you have to run battle win headers and hold the ball up and make room for others. Of course scoring lots of goals is preferably hopefully he will start contributing

 

This is getting silly now. We've almost got people praising him for not scoring goals.

I'm firmly in the 'strikers don't need to score goals to be effective' camp but he doesn't affect the game at all. He doesn't do any of the stuff that you've listed.

 

Would have thought the "rose tinted point of view" would be far far down the line, not after 2 of the scrappiest 1-0s the league have ever seen.

A win will always be a win, but the number 9 being as threatening as a vegan at a bbq does need addressing after this long. He's averaging a shot every 50 minutes so far, and to say he's usually taken off after 60/65 mins that's painting a far worse picture. At some point, a defender popping up for a 1-0 win won't hack it anymore. It's not people finding something to moan at, it's more we have a genuine elephant in the room with spending money on a number 9 who doesnt attack.

 

It's a tricky one for GA. He's had him before, knew all about him, and invested a lot of his judgement and the club's money in him. But, whatever Beesley can offer it certainly doesn't seem to be working for us. I say seem because I can't see anything to him at all but I'm not a football professional so perhaps I, and lots of others, are missing something. But when you see Humphrys produce two superb defence splitting passes, one of which produced a goal, and scored himself within an hour of his season debut, and Powell coming on and both scoring and being an absolute menace every game you wonder how long Graham will stick to what he believes Beesley brings to the team. Perhaps he thinks the results vindicate his approach, and maybe for much of the fanbase that's all that matters. But I want to see us get the best out of the players we have and see more exciting attacking football, and, for God's sake, more goals. Just look at the goals scored by the top six in the table tonight. I'm glad we're doing well in the sense of where we are in the league but I want to be entertained as well.
