To say Beesley can't hold up the ball or pass is ridiculous and frankly it's wrong. There were a number of times against Peterborough and Sheffield Wednesday where he held the ball up well or linked with a team mate to set up a chance, same against Rochdale. He put in a great cross on Wednesday and incredibly unlucky not to get an assist from it.
He is a lot better than Humphrys and far more consistent in the press and his workrate.

 

I didn’t think they were anything special at all, footballing wise. They were big and strong and dangerous from corners and long throws. They created little in open play which, considering they were at home and our central midfield was awful, is saying something. They pressed and bullied us like we’ve often do to other teams.

Like many on here, I’m not convinced by Sarce in that CM role. He’s nowhere near as dangerous as he is in the wide 10 role, which he’s much better at doing than Jackson. With Connolly sitting deep we need a box to box CM to get us up the pitch, otherwise it’s all long diagonals, which become far too predictable.

We never looked at the races at all today. I do wonder if we hadn’t recovered physically or mentally from the Burnley exertions and highs, especially with the long travel time in between. The fantastic pressing we saw on Wednesday was conspicuous by its absence.

 

Your last sentence says it all. Without that press our technical deficiencies show. We bypass midfield most of the time., I'm never really show what Jackson does bar run around a lot and it's that position where Sarce is at his best.

 

A well balanced interview from GA - agreed with every single part of it. He was as frustrated and disappointed as we are today, I imagine he will address on the long journey home.

 

Yes had a good two years with us but he has had six clubs as a manager and was let go for a reason at them all even with 3 promotions including us it seems the longer he was at clubs the less successful they became.Having said that like the rest of us wish him every success with us and hope he can improve the team to bring the results we need

 

Are you mad??? You don’t criticise golden balls on here! TBF Better than coverage distribution of the ball at this level but is worse than average on his pure defending.

There’s something I like about Beesley and he did well last season. He just looks isolated too much at the moment. i don’t know how Burton got the best out of him but he always seems to have his back to goal with no support at the moment.

Kavanagh was heavily involved in the majority of goals we scored in the second half of that season. I don't even think that's much of an exaggeration.

 

That's going to be his get out of jail card with a lot on this forum. There's plenty of ways he can affect the game without getting 'service'. Even if it's a fair defense it's still reasonable to judge his contributions when he does get the ball to feet or down the channels.

 

Saw a comment on twitter earlier basically saying the only reason people thought he was a good signing in January was because the rest of the signings were so bad.

 

Still frustrates me that every team we play, seem to have some energetic flair player running their midfield (and ours) with flowing locks, no shin pads and rolled down socks. We’ve got Connolly who looks about as flash as a carthorse. Him and Sarce in midfield must be the slowest we’ve had for a while. We need some spark and bums off seats signing to get the fans believing.

 

Bad day at the office today, we move on. For me it’s a question of consistency at this level and we have seen it happen in previous seasons, the important result is where we finish at the end of the season, there will be more ups and downs to come.

Plymouth are one of the teams with high expectations so it was never going to be easy even without the tiring few days. What does worry me slightly is our Marquee signing of the summer Phillips who hasn’t started a league yet. I hope he is going to fit into our pressing style of play similar to Humphrey.
As for Beesley he never has been prolific he is a 12 to 13 goals a season player along with plenty of assists. His value is bringing the best of other players.
I agree with most on here about Sarcevic who doesn’t look the same player there. Disagree on Connolly who I think has done very well so far. I do think we miss Wright badly and we definitely need a signing there.
