He did alright. I'm feeling relatively optimistic about him but I thought he was just OK today.

 

I think he is one of those that if it clicks he will get a hat full but if it doesn't he will struggle to score all season BUT he will still run the defenders ragged and they will be glad when he gets taken off as they will get a rest

 

Not sure they’ll see Nick Powell coming on as ‘a rest’ tbh.

 

Its comparative. We base last seasons performances from our strikers to now. A combination of an inability to hold up the ball, bring others into play, compete in the air, present a nuisance to the defenders, press throughout the game.

Not one of our strikers from last season could do that. Humphrys doesn’t have the football Iq to play in that position and struggles to compete in the air, Wheatley couldn’t pass or shoot, Swan lacks Ariel presence, Cook wasn’t technical enough to play League 1 football and Mullin just liked to smash into people

Beasley offers most of the traits we need in GA’s system. The goals will come and I believe the attacking players around him will benefit from his presence

No one had a bad first half but Pointon offers so much more, IMO as it turned out a game changer, Posh weren't great but overall they couldn't have complained if if had been 3/4, at last we have a centre forward who can play the role and cause defences problems.

Are you fishing , Pointon can do things Swan can't, I thought it was a great change by Alexander and at the right time.
Alexander is in a great position having several good options attacking wise, withTyriek and Humphrys to come back.

 

He didnt really do alot wrong but like last week....Powell looks a far bigger threat in front of goal.

 

Agreed. But he still keeps them occupied and having to really concentrate, whilst tired from being run around by Beesley. In contrast to much of last season when quite a few CBs had a bit of an armchair ride.

 

A fully fit Powell is a great option to have, last season he showed glimpses of his quality. Now he is fully fit he will be a asset to the squad.

 

Well at least you spelled his name right but the Beezley Beasley Beesley negativity is surprising. Andy Cook didn't score every game but was lauded for his 'nuisance'. Powell is a different type of player that happened to be in the right place for his first touch.
Jake has been unlucky with his scoring attempts but, so far, has shown everything we have been missing since Cook got his injury.

 

I've just rewatched that goal. Really is a great move, from Neufville's pass, to Phillips's run and cross, Bobby taking a couple of defenders with him and Powell's perfect anticipation of the situation.

I bet the coaching team loved that.

 

Prediction from me - Beesley will end up like Hanson. Some people will love his work rate, say that he is the lead grafter for the team, never gives up a lost cause, harries defenders, doesn't win his share of free kicks etc, because those fans love a centre forward who is a focal point.

Others will say he doesn't score enough goals and if others aren't scoring and we aren't winning then he needs replacing with a better goal scorer.

It's going to be the debate all season.

Jake was an absolute workhorse yesterday.
Peterborough defenders were run ragged by him and what a substitute to bring on in Nick Powell.
Fans criticism regarding Jake's goal scoring in pre season,one cup and one league game come on the goals will come.

 

I've banged on about the short sightedness of judging a striker / forward on goals for ages. I'm fully on board with that. Hanson's contributions to winning games without scoring was phenomenal. Based purely on yesterday I'm just saying I don't think he was all that effective and I'm surprised he's getting so much praise.

 

I think the Hanson comparison is a fair one..
I dont see him as a 20+ goal a season in the Cook mould, but under GA, goals are shared throughout the team so weve moved on from relying on a single front man. I think 15 plus a fair share of assists is realistic and would represent success imo.
From what I've seen so far, I think hes exactly what we needed and Powell gives us a fantastic option off the bench.

 

Night and day to a few minutes before Jackson went off and Neufville played a pass in a similar position and Jackson just stood there and let the ball go past him. I don't know what was up with him yesterday but his attitude stank.
