It’s not as if we’ve lost a lot of pace from the team though. Pace is all well and good when you play that game but Alexander is direct in his set up and the signing of Beesley along with another CB to play with Baldwin who enjoys a long diagonal I expect this season to be much of the same as last. Solid and compact in the middle with long balls up top and crosses from Neufville and Wright on the flanks.

I think we need more pace around Beesley to be honest. Macca and Baldwin have similar stats and play types, it's going to be a lot more long balls down either channel from those two CBs. But the problem later into last season was that we just didn't have the legs to get up and support whoever played up front.

Our lone striker last season had a thankless task in a lot of the games as the supporting cast just couldn't play the transitions at the pace we did for the first half of the season. Neufville went off the boil, Touray looked like he was running in quicksand, Tyreik picked up more injuries unfortunately as he has done every season at City and Pointon had knocks too. For me, the wingback areas really need some pace outlets who will force us to get up the pitch or the attacking mids need to be right up there when we break. We still need depth there and i'd go for traditional wingers who can drop back like Tyreik, rather than the back ups being full backs who you ask to play higher like Touray.

A team doesn't necessarily need attackers with electric pace.
GA has signed Beesley for a reason. He has aerial presence, hold-up ability and tactical nous in the penalty area.
We'll use the high press for sure, which worked very well for the first 12 games of last season but I think we'll also gain a second or two with JB's hold up play which compensates for a lack of pace for the likes of Pointon, Sarce and Humphries to allow them to get in front of the play.
We also do have pace in Jackson who has shown he can get behind the defenders either off the ball or with it, it's just the end result which has been iffy.

Do you have the 'feelgood' factor from your U21's result? ;)

Thought you are bold about Beesley in the air. He’s the right Persil for the job and I’ve got comfort in his Aerial ability. Had to surf the net for all these puns lol.

We’ve paid fees for 5 of the 6 players we’ve signed,if you think most of them are crap then that’s down to the recruitment team not any lack of ambition. You moaned last summer that we were not willing to pay phenomenal wages for Matt Pearson who ended up being left out of the Donny team that did sign him. Chill and give the players the first 10 matches to see how they’re doing. We do need a decent midfielder but many weeks left before the window shuts.

Jordan Davies, trialist in our first 2 friendlies, has signed for Tranmere.

Good luck to him, I hope his appearances with us this summer helped him with this move.

Paying a fee for someone means very little in today's market. A lot of the lower league players are described as being transferred "for a fee" yet in reality it's just covering the remainder, or at least a portion of, their current contract that the selling club usually has to stump up before the player moves on.

Paying a fee is fine and welcomed but players care about wages simple as that and we are according to Sharpe around 13/14th until we increase that we ain’t getting the desired quality to get us over the line. We are expecting miracles from GA and it’s unfair. Yes I thought Pearson would’ve been a good shout, certainly better than McIntyre who they brought in but again we didn’t pay the wages.

What’s the plan this year if we don’t have a season like last, do we worry that tickets sales are going to drop next summer thus impacting the budget and 14th then becomes a little lower and little lower again if we plod the season after that. Hence why I keep asking what is the plan/
    Strategy for next 3 years.

I don't see what's unfair on Alexander, he knows what the job is and the roughly where the budget will be in the league. Nothing from the club suggests they are expecting something unrealistic from him.
Throwing money at it doesn't guarantee sucess, we showed that when we last got relegated and left the club in another financial mess. Rupp is already funding a sizable loss so where does it end and what's the plan if he decides he's had enough and pulls the funding?
Reckless spending is what is killing football from top to bottom and fans encouraging it is part of the problem. It's also very hypocritical of fans as it's great when you club is doing it yet when others do it its "buying success" and any achievement is dismissed

We are ticking along quite nicely, especially compared to what went before
Plenty of time to bring in more players and hopefully the gap is down to waiting on better quality to become available
