I'm going to give Jackson the benefit of a good pre-season and see how he goes. January signings are often hard to judge if they don't knock it out of the park.

Like @bantam2708 said, for me Sarcevic's secret sauce is anticipating up near the top of the pitch and last season he was probably our most natural finisher. Moving him back negates those two big pluses and I'm not convinced anyone taking his place is going to be as good in those areas.

I'm still unsure where Phillips will play. Hoping its not deja vu like Humphrys.

 

The window has raised far more questions than answers to issues for my liking but there's still time to go.

Feels like after last season we needed an obvious step in for Power or Metcalfe, and now we have supposedly replaced both but again no depth. Wing backs struggled from Jan/Feb onwards and there's been no additions there.

But the team in general just needed a pace injection this summer. We were so slow getting up and now the pitch in the final stretch and we've not added any legs really.

 

If Lapslie is not on the plane to Austria,then I would think his time at City is up.

 

Could be Isaac Hutchinson. Not in BR's squad for their friendly against Portsmouth this afternoon.

I think that might have changed as he's talking about a few of the academy lads and all of the trialists filling a few of the spaces now. Wright is confirmed not going and I wouldn't be surprised if Baldwin, Phillips and Humphrys are not on the plane either.

 

Agree, and for once I'm not really paying much attention to them - I'll go to the kids vs Campion, kids vs BPA games - there is at least some concern if we continually can't find the target, though, as that tends to creep into the start of the season, but we also just walloped Halifax 6-1, so it is what it is.

Alexander said last night that Baldwin will be going to Austria.

 

It’s amazing how a little training match setback creates such negativity we improved the forward line with Beesley who while not prolific he scores enough and adds the physicality we missed last season and we have Phillips who everybody seemed to rave about when we signed him to add to forward thinking players. And we have plenty of choice in central defence and now keeper. So all those areas are stronger. We do need a decent signing for a box to box midfielder which I think will come ( probably a loan) and right wing back competition and I think then we we will have a stronger squad.

 

I don't feel it's the friendly at all that's created any negativity and indeed, it doesn't feel negative. Just fans asking questions.

What's causing the questions is:
1. We appear to have visible holes in the squad still, which 90% of fans would agree with and in the last couple of seasons we've done business early so it feels unusual this time

2. Trialists appear to be filling out friendly squads more than they have in the last couple of seasons and they don't really feel to be at mid/top league one level.
