He's nearly 23 and hasn't had any league experience since 2024. Even that didn't amount to much, with just 1163 minutes for FGR over 17 games and a grand total of 13 minutes over two games for Belgium side, Deinze. Seemingly no interest from anywhere over the past couple of years so yes, it's kind of make or break time for him now. Not convinced he'll be anywhere near league 1 standard, but let's see.

 

The Belgium club went bankrupt and folded not long after he signed for them on loan , the lad may be a Neil Byrne but he could also be a very good player once given the chance to progress. If you look at some of the young lads that have been sold on for decent money that have been released from premiership or championship clubs and dropped down a few leagues , they have started to progress and built up their experience and grown into very good players and been snapped back up by clubs from the premiership and championship. The clubs that release these young lads don't have the time to carry on with them because it's a conveyor belt and need to release the ones that aren't ready to feature in their league and make room for the next batch to move up.

 

Hopefully he gets a half at Halifax and shows up well.

Definitely, GA has said that like last year, the players will be going into the game fatigued.

 

It's not for some Serg, you have to make allowances sometimes.

 

If GA's words about him carry any weight then he needs to give the young lad a chance in some of the pre-season games. Let's hope he can get a goal or two.

These trialists will all want to really play well and get a contract. They recognise the club is going upwards. We need to be ruthless in testing them so we don't regret a quick contract offer if they're looking poor by October.

 

Hopefully we are considering a deal for someone else!

GA has now confirmed he wants a further 3 signings this window to add to the squad depth.

He also says a little bit of interest in a couple of our players who were perhaps not regulars last season, although nothing in the pipeline regarding moving them on. I would imagine Lapslie being one and perhaps Swan?

 

Or perhaps Pennington or big Joe , I can't believe we didn't get one single post on here on a Sunday.

 

I hope Swan sticks around. He seems to be the most natural finisher on the books. Probably not a starter though?

 

Hopefully it's all smoke and mirrors because it doesn't fill me with confidence that he seems happy checking out the trialists for those positions and doesn't seem to have any specific targets in mind that we are still working on. Maybe that could work for CB where we are quite well stocked, but I think we still need a real quality signing for CM at a minimum.

 

I think we all knew we are still a minimum of 3 players short even before anyone could potential leave. It wouldn't surprise me if we announced at least one by the time they fly to Austria.

 

I am sure they will have targets in mind, waiting for loan decisions perhaps?. Its very rare that we sign on trialists.
