Restaurants and stuff

I'm the same with Sunday lunch. For me it's an "at home" occasion. Had a good evening at Buon Apps on Saturday evening. Perfect night for a table on the terrace with family. Very occasionally the food can be a bit hit and miss but everthing was spot on this time. A notch above your regular Italian but like a lot of places the prices are creeping higher every time we go. Its still worth it for now - just!

 

Yeah, disappointed with Buon Apps last couple of times we've been. We tend to head to Flying Pizza these days for our Italian fix. Always consistent.

 

Its maybe not the institution it once was but you're right the food has still been good whenever we have been more recently. It's always an interesting people watch as it does get more than its share of nobs and Leeds players!

 

Yep, theres some prize bell ends there, but all part of its character.

I've stopped going on a Sunday; it"s not cheap and just ok. The head chef's juat left so maybe the new person will shake it up.

The garden menu over summer is good but you can't book an outdoor space.

 

On the Sunday theme - we were in Ilkley a few weeks ago watching a steady stream of folk heading into Saimah's, a curry place.

We gave it a go. On a Sunday they do a deal for about 10 quid including starter, main and side. It claims to be the "best Bradford curry outside of Bradford" and I'm pretty much with them.

Bizarrely, because we didn't want starters etc and only had mains (plus beerz) we were charged more.

Still good though.

 

Some good friends bought me a very generous voucher for my birthday for the Paradise Cafe at Daleside Nurseries in Killinghall, near Harrogate.
We had an excellent meal and the portions were generous as well as beautifully cooked, inventive and well presented. I thought the setting was lovely and the service good too, a nice relaxed atmosphere.
It certainly is not cheap, our bill for 2 people for 3 courses, 1 glass of wine and 1 ginger beer came to £136. No service automatically added, which I like, so approximately £150 all in. I think it is worth the cost for a special treat.

 

We are down for the Mansfield match and are staying near Bingley. Has anyone eaten at Valentinos Italian restaurant?

 

I've not eaten there, but not heard a good thing about it.
Saltaire has some decent eateries these days, I can recommend Seoul Kitchen.

Thank you, the last few times we were down we ate at the Pepper Mill.

 

Been to Seoul Kitchen a couple of times. First time brilliant. Second time the only problem was the rice had been under a hot lamp for ages and had a hard hat on. Will definitely go again though, it's only a 5 minute walk. It's very busy, rightly and it can be a bit rushed with the service. Pepper Mill is good too, always had a good experience there

 

Obviously this may never happen haha but if any of you happen to come to North Carolina at some point, a friend of mine has a fantastic restaurant(Been around since the 50's and passed down through the family)and I could get you a great deal on a meal or perhaps even free. Just something to keep in mind, especially if you love steak!

Went out to Napoleons casino for my birthday with wifey our go to place for a good meal although a while since we've been
Now £30 for dine in style, £38 Thu/Fri, probably still good value tho' with a free drink and a £5 gambling voucher.
Starter of fish cake was nice probably a bit too much and dented my appetite somewhat, but the real disappointment was the sirloin steak, the toughest I have ever encountered.
Was offered another but had lost interest by then, should have paid a bit extra for a fillet, although they were very apologetic and knocked £15 off the bill.
Real killer was the lack of the spin and win roulette wheel deal for a chance of 36% off your bill.
Maybe that's why there were only 9 people in on a Monday night.
Will go again but maybe just do the 2 course deal, my appetite doesn't seem to run to 3 courses anymore.

My Dad and I like trying different pork pies from different butcher shops locally. Does anyone recommend any? Thank you

 

Don't eat the things myself, that jelly 5hit freaks me out, but the guys at work always bang on about Weegmanns in Otley.
If bakeries are your thing, Underground Bakery further down the road is great, but get there early - weekends are when they put their specials on.

 

Very good. Satisfying grub, bit creative, top service. Would be a regular if I was local.
