Summer 26 Transfer Rumours

Did you miss the end of last season? Lapslie was arguably our best player in three of the last few games. His versatility is invaluable. Even in an upgraded L1 squad he’s a great bench option. I’ll be amazed if GA lets him go.

 

He's an enigma. Nobody knows what's going on with him. He probably will stick around but like last year, we probably won't get told anything officially about under what terms.

 

I agree, if Laps wants to stay it's a no brainer. I think we need to bring in another CM of real quality but as a squad option, we'd struggle to find better.

 

What i was thinking is a three in central midfield with Phillips ahead of two other midfielders but behind the front two.

Wider is an option of course as well though.

 

Pretty sure there's absolutely no reason not to announce it if he was signed. Not sure it affects anything for anyone except Powell himself

 

He was arguably our best player because of his energy but quality wise he still looked short.

I'm not saying he's a poor player but if Lapslie is still picking up motm awards next year then I don't think the "upgrades" will have been quite as successful as we imagine.

 

Oh for sure, if the only way we bring another CM in is if he goes then then yes, move him on. However, if we are wanting 4 in the squad rather than 3, we won't get a better option than Laps imo. He doesn't moan or cause issues when he isn't playing and on the occasions when he is called upon, never gives less than 100%. I'd rather have him than someone else that's going to sulk and stink the place out if he isn't getting regular game time.

 

No one is suggesting giving Laps a new contract. He’s already contracted to June 2027. Nor am I suggesting that he’ll be a regular starter. But he’s great cover for injuries in several positions and as a versatile bench option.
In an ideal world we’d have our entire squad comprised of positional specialists all worthy of a regular starting place; but we don’t live in that world. So a utility player like Lapslie who will run through brick walls and rarely let you down is a valuable squad member.

 

Would mean moving to a 2 up top system though with a 3 man midfield? And would probably mean every week we have to pick one of Phillips, Sarce, Pointon to play in the 10 and maybe Jackson & Beesley up top? Maybe Humps?

 

I cannot see us forking out on another transfer fee. I reckon any more additions will be loans or out of contract players.

GA did say that once the delayed transfer of a younger player, presumably Cartwright, goes through, he would then be looking at bringing in someone else later in window, which suggests to me a loan target

 

If we start the season with just connelly and cartwright as our 2 midfielders then we're in for a very tough season.

 

Yes, i wasn't advocating for it every match, and I believe he'll start with the front three that worked well so far, but I feel with the attacking options we have now, it is more of an option than last season. GA has to be looking at a stronger plan B than we had last season and we have more flexible forward options this coming season than we started with last season.

 

I think your right there will be a loan signing and possibly one from the players trialing

 

Every window there comes a point where you say you think that's us done or you think we'll only bringing in 1 or 2 more and every time you are wrong. I'm pretty confident this window will be no different.
