It’s strange but not uncommon that certain individual will dislike a player from the start, and to justify his initial opinion goes on and on picking any error despite evidence from most other people including the manager who’s extended his contract that he’s actually a decent player.

You don't get a vote - you're the cause of all this kerfuffle.

Seriously? Only one in twenty of his long diagonals reached their target? That’s nonsense. There’s no way GA would have had him keep doing it if they’d been that ineffective.
Park’s quoted figure above of 37.4% is much more realistic.

You think he had more than a one in 3 success rate with the diagonals? Wow!

It was 4.9 per game that hit its intended target and yeh, 37% success rate.

The stat is slightly off. He did hit on average 4.9 (rounding up) long passes successfully per game. But it's not a percentage stat, it's the actual number of successful passes rather than a percentage.

His accurate long balls are 37.4% which is on the lower side of the players who ping long balls every game. As Parks screenshot shows, Baldwins was actually the second worst success rate of long passers in that top 8/9 players listed in the screenshot. Based on his stats last season, you would see 5 successful long balls per match from Baldwin, but they'd come from 14 or 15 attempts.

Depends how they are defining a long ball as those figures are way too high for all of the players you'd think. Players just aren't that accurate at this level

At the end of the day Baldwin is a solid DIVISION THREE defender. He has the odd mistake in him and occasional lapses of discipline, most notably at Donny a couple of years ago, but on the whole I don’t see how we can have many complaints.

Good point. Many of Baldwin’s long diagonals are hit from just outside our penalty area to the touchline level or near level with the other penalty area. They are very long passes indeed and necessarily hit very hard. So it’s not surprising that they don’t all come off. But when they do, they immediately put us in a very attacking position. Which is no doubt why GA encourages him to keep doing it.
Even when they don’t go directly to our wing backs (and would therefore not be counted as ‘successful’ passes) they often require the oppo fullback to concede a throw in well into their own half, thus giving us possession in an advanced position.
I wonder how many of the other ‘long passers’ on the list are making such ambitious long passes on a routine basis? I suspect the stats are comparing apples with pears.

Which is fine, because that’s five very good situations created per game. And, as mentioned above, some of the others will have created attacking throw ins in advanced areas.
