Prediction Portal — Your Feedback Wanted

With 8 World Cup matches now completed and points on the board, we thought it was a good time to check in and hear what you think of the Prediction Portal.

Whether it's something that's not working quite right, a feature you'd love to see, or just general thoughts on how it's going — we want to hear it all.

A few things we'd love feedback on:

• How are you finding the prediction process? Is it easy to use?
• Are the scoring rules clear? (Correct result, exact score, goalscorers, perfect bonus)
• Is there anything on the leaderboard you'd like to see changed or added?
• Have you spotted any bugs or anything that doesn't look right?
• Any features you'd like to see added for the future?

I've made an update the leaderboard. Now if you click any entrants name you will get a break down showing their results




Works on both the overall where you can scroll through every game or on the indvidual game weeks where you will only get the entry for that game week

I do store positions so I can absolutely could add that and it should be fairly easy too so I should be able to get that sorted tonight.

One of the big problems doing this for the World Cup is some of the players names actually depend on where you are from. This is especially the case with many of the Arab countries but also Koreans are problematic too (They do Family name Given name. So we say Ji-Sung Park, they say Park Ji-Sung. But you also have Korean vs western spellings of some names)

I could also probably add squad lists. It's just working out the best place to put them (and I need to find a source I can import pictures from to make it look a bit nicer visually). I'll have a think and might add this by the end of the week

I might add a separate page for squad lists still but I need to work out the menu bar. Right now on desktop if you start dragging the window to be narrower the menu fits perfectly until the point it switches to mobile mode. Another item see's it overflow before it switches to mobile mode

 

Got another addition. I had a user who has stopped taking part and wanted removed from the forum notifications.

I had a global ignore that wouldn't tag entrants when a new match was posted but it didn't move your usergroup so if I manually tagged the usergroup you still got a notification.

I've reworked it today so now it's a per competition setting. You can click settings on the portal and turn opt-out on for each active competition. It will not only prevent the script sending you a notification but will also move you to a different usergroup that retains your entry badge but won't see you get a notification if I mention the usergroup in a thread

 

Fixed a visual issue. The scoring was treating scorers correctly but visually there was an issue where you predicted someone to score more than once and they scored one



Notice how its marking both Diaz predictions are correct despite only scoring once.

It's now fixed so it will only mark additional scorers if they score multiple that number of times



It was also impacting the Game Week Leaderboard

So from the same game it thought I got both of my scorer predictions correct



but only one of them was correct as that stat was also tripped up by the same issue. Now its correct

 

I was fixing something which broke the login temporarily. Should be fixed.

And if you are still having issues it is most likely a cache issue. On desktop/laptop hold shift and click the refresh icon and it should fix.

On phones you may need to clear your cache as it doesn't have a hard refresh option

See stats on others predictions. See the break down of predicted results, the top 5 most predicted scores and the top 5 predicted scorers

Progressive Web App

If you use the site on your phone make it easier to get to the portal by installing the Progressive Web App. It's simple to do

iPhone / iPad (Safari): Open the portal in Safari → tap the Share icon → Add to Home Screen → Add.
Android (Chrome): Open the portal in Chrome → tap the ⋮ menu → Install app (or Add to Home screen) → Install.

Will then add it to your phone's homescreen and opening it will load the prediction portal as if its a standard app
