Summer 26 Transfer Rumours

Reading through Barnsley stuff today, loads think it's a great move for both sides because Phillips will play attacking midfield here in one of the two support roles behind the striker. And they get rid of one or their top earners, they all seem to think Phillips and Connell are their top two earners and both will leave soon. Also, under Stendel thier new boss they will play 442 and Phillips wont play deep in midfield in that system.

Hopefully we have a really dynamic attacker here, his stats to say how iffy Barnsley have been in the last few seasons are really decent.

 

Hopefully while the purse strings loosened for a few clubs we can cash in again on Aden Baldwin.

Then blow the whole £3.50 on penny sweets, get Lenny back, and then have him lob them 40 yards into the first 3 rows of each side stand.

 

Maybe Metcalf was unsettled by Power leaving?

 

If the club doesn't do this for the next departure, I will be disappointed

 

As with all transfer deals, what we spend the proceeds on will dictate whether it was a good decision. It makes sense to sell for a multitude of reasons (profit, will encourage other players of a similar ilk to sign for us, means we can recruit upgrades in a few positions…).

I hope that he goes on to great things. The potential is there and nobody can begrudge him what’s clearly a big step up.

Don't think that had anything to do with it. The club has simply had an offer that was too good to turn down, and the lad is ambitious and wants to play at a higher level.
Its good business but all now about who we bring in.

 

Metcalfe showed the quality and potential to play Championship football but needed some time to develop and build up. It was a big step up just to L1 and despite a drop off he showed he could handle it. I would have liked him to stay, get stronger and maybe command a bigger fee. But fair play to City for finding him. There’s a lot of kids out there and not many will give you an immediate handsome profit. Good luck to the boy. It’s another big step in a short space of time. Will it take him time or will he rise to the occasion like he did with us? I hope he grabs it.

 

Let's not kid ourselves losing our starting central midfield is going to be incredibly tough to overcome, they were both big personalities as well and really complimented each other. We need to recruit fantastically well to replace them.

 

Adam Phillips goes a long way to fixing those issues

I think £2m will be a massive stretch. I reckon more like half of that with the rest made up in increments based on performance and games etc

No way is it £2m straight up or football really has gone mad

 

Well it looks like Dempsey & Phillips are 2 of em, then you’d hope we get a new captain in there too

 

He certainly has the quality, I just don't think he slots into the same system we had last year with the 2-man pivot.

We'll likely need to change that or get someone else in who can sit in that deeper role.

 

If Phillips is coming, that is a great signing.

Barnsley fans I know say, h's simply been poorly managed in the last couple of years, but still cite him as a vital player when on.

Imagine what GA's man management skills can do.

 

That's because he plays the Sarcevic or Pointon roll. Or adapting the midfield to a 4-3-3, with him as the attacking midfielder.

 

That's my worry bead Pointon is worth more than Metcalfe.... hope he stays ....GULP

 

Yeah I'm wondering if we'll move to a midfield 3 next season, potentially Phillips and Sarcevic / (new signings e.g Dempsey) with a proper 6 sat behind them covering

 

In fairness, we looked fine with a back four or arguably better when we switched to that in the latter parts of the latter games.

The only problem is it disrupts that now brilliant Touray, Wright, Pointon LHS - which shouldn't be under-rated. I think WOAP stated that we won 6 out of 11, losing just 2, when they played together.
