Radio Leeds, Bradford City podcast.

Sorry -out of the blue and I am bored. Is this the reason why City are always trumped by either Leeds or Hudders for DAB, - the contracts are negotiable, and in this case City don't bargain or pay enough? In my naevety I thought media paid clubs for coverage.

Whatever the reason, bloody annoying for me as I live outside the FM range, but can always get our local rivals on DAB.

 

Leeds Utd are always on FM first as are we when Leeds aren’t playing. When all three clubs are playing at the same time Leeds Utd get FM City and Huddersfield get DAB in their area. Radio Leeds pay us not the other way round.

I can see why it’s annoying for you, but I hate when it’s on DAB. The coverage on my way home along Manningham Lane and Otley Road to Baildon is shocking. The signal keeps cutting out and it’s really frustrating. On FM it’s perfect so I much prefer it.

Funny that because I go that way home to Burley in Wharfedale and the DAB signal is fine until I'm nearly there. FM is much better though, I agree. In my opinion analogue sound is much preferable to digital for music especially. The only advantage of digital, and it's a big advantage, is for streaming, but whenever I can I listen to music on FM.

 

The latest Take me home podcast features a 2 part interview with our ex goalkeeper Harry Lewis, comes over as a really nice bloke and talk’s about his almost transfer to Barnsley,that Stockport wanted him as well and his eventual move to Carlisle which didn’t go very well for him. He claims Graham Alexander barely spoke to him but I imagine that Alexander was happy to see him leave and get a fee for him as Lewis had a very poor 2nd season at City. Incidentally in these days of undisclosed fees Lewis says Barnsley offered £250,000 but it included a lot of staged payments and Carlisle paid £175,000 for him.

 

He gave me his gloves after a game once. He's a really nice guy.

 

Seems like a nice lad and always has done. But if you spoke to Alexander I bet it would be told a bit differently than him being ignored and feeling unwanted. I feel like if GA gets the impression you don’t want to play for his club then he thinks you know where the door is don’t let it hit you on the way out. To him he probably feels like he doesn’t stand in players way when they want a move. Lewis doesn’t openly admit to being eager to leave, but as soon as he’d had a good season I felt his head was turned and he was keen to get to league 1 asap. He’s not really going to openly admit it like.

 

No he isn't going to fully admit it , remaining “ neutral” is his only option .

 

I know it was spun in the media by Sparks at the time and he said a few quotes along the lines of "Graham was always our first choice" after being asked at the time as it was a good month or so between Hughes out and GA in. But i think many of us thought that was a load of nonsense given GA was still employed elsewhere when Hughes was sacked and we had our second caretaker in that time too.

Lewis confirms the squad were told that we had another manager agreed but it fell through. He said McDonald told all the lads the new gaffer is coming in after the PJT game and it was Kevs last, then all of a sudden Trueman managed 1 game in the FA cup and they were told the new manager wasn't coming in at the time. I wonder who they assumed they had lined up? Not that it matters, just a interesting weird one.

 

Was it the Cowley brothers that City thought they had lined up, only for them to do a U-Turn and cite locality as an issue and wanted to stay down south for family reasons?

 

Ahhh yes that was it! In my head we had Paul Hurst and Wellens running around wanting the job but that might have been when Hughes came in i think rather than GA?

 

Funnily enough I don’t want to listen to this. I love the podcast, but I am not particularly interested in the ‘woe is me’ 2 part interview. His agent wouldn’t be listening to bids if he hadn’t asked him too. I just can’t see the club accepting bids if they had not been made aware he wanted to leave it just doesn’t make sense. GA will not be best pleased if he believes the player has gone behind his back. His reply to GA ‘it looks like it’ is ambiguous. Why didn’t he immediately contact the club and tell them he didn’t want to leave, and he had no idea who was encouraging these bids!

I think he is emotionally immature. Nobody loved me, and the gaffer didn’t talk to me. Once again, he didn’t initiate contact himself.

 

I’m with you, his narration makes no sense to me either .

 

What about the other podcast with Joe Wright and Brad Halliday on Bantams TV? Both come across well

 

I liked the way Brad still talked of City as 'us'.

 

It doesn’t come across as that at all. It’s an excellent listen.
