It reached a new level when he had the Stockport owner on. Both trying to be all blokey and see how many F words they could use.

 

It would be foolish to stand in a players way tbh. There may be a delay as there are two weeks until the window opens for the reasons you give but there is probably a clause in his deal anyway.

 

He just might use Wigans interest to negotiate a longer contract. He was a key player for us last season. I wouldn’t contemplate letting him go until someone better was signed and on our budget that would be very difficult

 

Alexander will not want Power to go,I don’t think it’s like the Smallwood situation where he decided not to offer a new deal. I imagine Wigan have approached Power out of the blue and he’s keen to join his old club and once a player wants to go there’s not much point forcing him to stay.

 

His two lads are in the Wigan academy, so i guess he is in pretty constant catchup with folk at the club. If it's happening, i'd prefer it to be a quick one rather than drag out.

I'm not against him leaving to be honest, he's a decent player still but age is always closing in and lets be honest, him and Metcalfe are too similar to play together. Rather build the guy who will make us a few quid in that position and get some legs alongside Metcalfe.

 

I thought Stott was a well respected businessman until I heard that dumbing down , DMac is just a bloke you’d meet in the Old Crown in the 70’s . Narcissist to the core . Money doesn’t gain respect ?

 

They didn't have one though, that's the point. They all had a group full of them and THAT'S what makes teams successful.

 

Do the other two take set pieces though? If not then they are decent figures from open play. I'd bet that pretty much all 7 of Powers assists were from dead ball situations.

 

I do agree that Metcalfe has more in his locker than just a deep lying midfielder but when they play together they are almost sat on each other's knee, 5 yards behind the defensive line.

How ever they want to sort it, that's definitely a problem they need to resolve.

 

I like Power, there's no criticism from me. I just think the balance of the midfield isn't quite right at the minute.

 

I've read in the T&A this morning that the assistant manager is also godfather to his youngest son so definitely lots of connections there. It may just be that he fancies ending his career at the club where he's already won 3 promotions and with Caldwell there now and interested in taking him, it could be his best chance rather than seeing his contract out with us and risking Wigan having a new manager this time next year who may not fancy him.

 

Yeah that's true Serg, this is the group lacking most I'd say.

 

Most the Wigan fans aren't liking the idea of Power coming back from what i can see online. Few thinking it's a good will move to try and get fans onside again after another poor year.

He's a good leader but i cant say i wont miss him pointing at all the areas of space around him that he couldn't fill anymore. He has a good long ball on him but he doesn't exactly get across the pitch and really needs some legs alongside him.

 

Sounds like Stockport are reaching out to Grimsby to try and take David Artell on as their next manager.

If he wants to return to Wigan then let him go see ya fella !!
We need an attacking midfield dynamo one who can take a free kick, miss the 1st man when taking a corner and have a better ratio of hitting the target when shooting from open play
Certainly his leadership qualities may be missed but not irreplaceable
