The money must be there. We surely aren’t paying full wages to the Newcastle lads and Sibley?

The Graydon fee was stupid and 500k for Ward is too. It’s the worst time of year to be doing business unless you find someone with a cheap release clause ala Wyke!

500k may sound a lot of money since we've been away from this level for years but in reality it's a bang average transfer fee.

Gone are the days where we sign a Charlie Wyke level player for 250k.

Maybe the club were happy to try and sign the kid but not at the price Accrington were asking, which I get, but as you say we must have some brass and if the lad did continue to improve then we have the potential to sell him on and we'd want far more than £500,000, I've not past comment on the players we brought in so far as I've not seen them in the flesh but we've hardly broke the bank with the signing we've made so far.

Tbf we robbed Carlisle for Wyke. He was worth £500-750k I think, but the clause did for them!

i wonder how much Bobby, Neufville and Metcalfe are worth in today’s market? You are right, times have changed. We just aren’t used to paying fees. stefan is probably wary after Edin spoffed cash on Jake Reeves and Dominic Poleon etc!

So we have money to spend if the rumours are true that we wanted Ward. The money should now be used on a established experienced striker with what looks like the signing of Wheatley. I would also be looking at our midfield with similar sort of player to Sarcevic, we certainly miss him when he doesn't play.

Do you think we could afford Molyneux from Doncaster :brig:

After 28 games it does look like our defence needs tightening up. We deserve to concede more goals than we have in reality.

is that because a) Sam Walkers had a good season (has a high save percentage iirc) b) oppo strikers have been wasteful against us?

still seems to suggest we create a fair number of chances going forward, but when you watched us on Sat, that is hard to believe. When Bobby and Sarce are off it, or injured, it seems we are lost.

The suggestion we create a fair number of chances doesn't correlate with what i see on a weekly basis. Its our biggest limitation

A club which had massive debt and now spending again. I suppose new owners means new spending.

City are regularly attracting 4,000+ POTD fans. So if the average cost for a ticket (including children and concessions) is £20, then on top of the 16,000 season ticket holders we are clearing £80,000+ each home match. Over a season that is £1,840,000!

Very, very expensive try before you buy’s, then!

Let’s get this understood… Sibley, Ashby and White are collectively earning £26k per week at their parent clubs. We’re not covering all of their wages, but it’s of a decent percentage!

    Roll on the 1st Feb.

If we haven't signed at least one decent striker by then, roll on June.

So, obviously in the know......is that more or less than we've let go with the likes of Brad, Cooky, Richards, Byrne et al?

Because if it's less, then we have definitely weakened the squad so far and saved money then!!

You can tell Sparky that too!

Sharpe was brought in to stop the nonsense - money wasted on players that dont bring value and get the best deals for the club.

If Sharpe has has refused this one then he is doing his job. 500k seems a bit excessive for a L2 CB who is out of contract in a few months. Money spent better elsewhere - lets hope they do.

Even if was say £1 million a season extra add the wages saved and the fees we got for Patto and Young and whack the Cup run money in , we should have more than enough to bring in a few players in that our ours.

True but we need the right players, not another Guthrie. Also bear in mind, January is a sellers market, hence inflated fees.
