I think Ward is very talented but 500k for a league two defender with his experience is to much when we need other positions

 

Apparently Reading have paid Accys asking price of £500,000, you'd have thought with our home attendances, season tickets sales and Cup run to Newcastle we could have match it but are Reading paying Ward a salary the lad couldn't turn down,

 

Broncs. We should have some money I agree ?

 

I agree with both replies could it have been spent better on a striker, if true Alexander feels he's not been backed.

 

Let's hope if we are talking that sort of money its spent on some one who can convert the few chances were making at the moment, we really need to back the manager having got us to where we are ?.

Ward plays LCB in a back 3 at Accy apparently. We can’t spunk 500k there when Touray plays the role excellently and we have other (attacking) priorities. It must be 25 years since we spent £500k on a CB. I can understand if Sparkes and Sharpe have refused to be bullied.

 

The trouble is this is an example of how difficult the market in January is. Which is probably why will continue dealing in the loan market

 

If we really wanted to pay the money then I'm sure we could afforded it. It's one thing having the money and another thing thinking the player is worth it or the risk is worth it. As others have said £500,000 for a player with his lack of experience is a gamble. If we're spending that kind of money now they have to be coming in as a first choice CB for now, we'd need him to come in straight away to a promotion race under huge pressure so I can understand why we've not wanted to spend that much on him.

Full credit to Accrington for holding their nerve and getting a top price for him especially when they only signed him 12 months ago and out of contract in the summer.

 

I'd actually be ruddy fuming if we had spent 500k on Ward and then only bring Wheatley in up front.

Not a chance we are spending 500k.. did you all not hear Alexander’s interview after the town game. He bemoaned a couple of times how much money is being spent in the window.

Not if your manager who has done as well as Alexander has done in his time at the club, apparently Alexander prioritized the kid Ward and the club didn't back him which I'm hearing lets hope its not true,

 

Still no sign of Wheatley is there. Did he have to be registered today if he was to be eligible to play tomorrow?

 

I sense Alexander has targets he'd like to bring in but he knows full well they are out of his reach. Must be frustrating seeing other clubs push the boat out at the same time.

 

If that's the case maybe where I heard the rumour from it's true, as @Birky Bantam said good business for Accrington they stuck to their valuation and got it ?.

Shouldn't the highlighted say "He bemoaned a couple of times how much money isn't being spent in the window".

 

Our final league position this season will determine where we stand as a club. Certainly not autos and lucky if play offs. We are getting found out after over achieving and that has been coming for a few weeks. Yes it's mightily disappointing but reality is starting to bite I am afraid

 

We must have a bob or two available mate, with the crowds were attracting many paying on the day as their not season ticket holders, season ticket price increase, money from our cup run better sponsorship but most of all Rupp promising he would back us, now maybe as a few have said its a lot of money for a League Two player in his first full season but there are times when you have to back your managers judgement, Sparks, Sharpe or Gent won't lose their jobs if it turns out a bad signing but Alexander could.

 

Don't forget the wages we're saving shifting out 6 players. Even if we are still paying part of Cooky's wages, we must be saving 12-15k a week.
