Clearly some football manager die hards on here and ignoring what I’m saying. I haven’t once said I don’t want to see us promoted. I just think long term it could well put us back.

That's the danger. There is no guarantee that next season we won't be in a different scenario to this, could be lower half of the table. I think it's clear we don't have any speculative bids for potential talent on the table, more looking at loans. I know it's traditional a difficult time to buy but it would have been nice to see a statement of intent signing, especially a striker, that would give not just fans a boost but also the players as the last few games they look to be running on empty.

£300,000 a week? Where are those figures from?

The only half decent source, although could be far from accurate was from capology.

And they look far less than the figures you're worrying. Screenshot_20260125_162049_Samsung Internet.jpg

I've quoted your post in my reply. It should be fairly simple to follow.

You want to quibble over a couple of figures. It’s widely reported Milwalls wage budget is £15million a season. Whats to argue about that?
It’s a normal figure for a championship club.
If you want to bury your head in the sand and think Rupp can afford to lose 15mill a season then be my guest but I’m just being realistic.

Missing out on promotion this season could put us well back too. You are simply speculating that we cannot compete or even survive in the Championship. How do you know we can't?

Seems like a very defeatist attitude.

You are confusing defeatism with realism. I don’t think we’d survive going up no, not this season. I think we’d be immediately relegated and in a shed load of debt.

A lot of people on here thought we would be relegated this year.

Too many sensitive souls who don’t reallly understand the game other than 11 blokes kicking a ball around. I said on a number of occasions I’d be delighted if we got promoted. That doesn’t take away from the fact I don’t think at this moment we could compete.

Without being there we dont know and i would at least have the chance of doing so ................ok teams losing millions or spending millions but there a fair few teams that can can cope with a smalle budget ..........us at this level are performing a lot better than teams wih far bigger budgets ............i just dont buy into this getting ready for say 2 or 3 years down the line where there is no guarantee of it happening.

Say we do go up and drop back is that such a big deal ????
At least the club would be dropping down as a far stronger club than the one that went up and think a lot of fans would get on board with that

With Rupp and Sharpe at the helm i very much doubt we would end up with a load debt they would simply do what they have done at this level and that means spending within our means.

Its fooking sad though that the powers that be simply allow clubs to lose 10s of millions of pounds a season and given clubs who are running within there means little or no chance of surviving

As somebody who “doesn’t understand the game other than 11 blokes kicking a ball around” can the oracles on here just answer one question.

How do we know when we are “ready” to get promoted?

I agree completely but it is unfortunately the world we will live. Preston a club mentioned before - their owners had to wipe 30million quid worth of debt in September. Thats the second time in recent years they’ve had to do. Thats a club that have stagnated for years in the Champ.

Let’s get there first and then see what is required
There is also the fact that returning to the championship would bring renewed interest in the ownership
After all next season we could be fighting at the other end of this division
Opportunity like this is rare in football, even more so with Bradford city

I've never really got the talk of not being ready. Firstly we're judging the team on now on a hypothetical whereas if we did get promoted then it will mean performances like yesterday are rare as you don't pick up 30+ points from 19 games playing poor. To do that it will mean the players have shown they are good enough to win big games at the top end or we've brought in players in the last week of the window that have improved the team. Also if we do go up then just like this summer we will bring in players who can compete in the Championship. I'm sure if people were asked 12 months ago if we were ready to compete at the top end of league yet here we are doing exactly that.
If we were to go up then what it gives us is a great opportunity to build a team that even if we went down we have chance of bouncing back like what Rotherham and Barnsley used to do.

How do you know we'd lose £15M? You don't.

You haven't even provided any decent links for the wage budgets, it's complete guess work on your behalf which is why you aren't being taken seriously.

Do I think Rupp can fund us in the Championship? Probably not but I'm more than happy to worry about what's next once we get there rather than offering some strange word salad about some fictitious master plan that so obviously can't fail and only requires us not to be ambitious and just wait.

I'm going out on a limb here..when we've been vying for the top 3 in league 1 for half a season. That's when I'd look to invest if I owned a football club and wanted to try for promotion.
