Thought Wright in particular was excellent

 

Totally agree. When he does the basics needing to clear his lines, looked good. When he had time to think, he looked desperately unsure summarised by a moment in the first half, he turned back inside and you could see he was struggling tlwhat to do. He got away with it as the ball went dead for a throw in

 

If you look at the “ stats” Dave it tells a story until you break it down by pure observation 70% possession included 80% farthing around between the back three and the keeper . Three times in the first half they gained a free kick midway between half way and our pen spot , and they eventually passed it back to their keeper. Watching that crap would drive me insane …but “ stats”?

 

PS that was some save from their keeper just after they made it 2-1. Thats a goal 9 times out of 10.

Unless im over estimating it. Not seen a replay.

 

Wright? Seems harsh to me. Leigh imo had a cracking game, hustling, energetic, decent balls in but his work off the ball to squeeze the space was really telling

 

I said at the time, it was a world class save

 

They can use £5m of the money they get for kone to buy him

 

Anywhere between the sticks and it was , just happened to be central where the keeper was!

Early days but I'll stick my neck out, I think that back three will struggle. Not a criticism just an opinion. Better attacks will pull it all over the place.

I don’t think that’s our go to back three but hey you could be right. I’ve watched three games so far inc last nights and all defences look like strangers!

 

Josh was great.. however, Leigh was outstanding in the middle of the park.

First game and a long way to go but that was a good start. Struggled a bit in the 2nd half but I expected that.

Great to see real football again.

 

As you and I have watched debuts for over half a century, I can’t think of one more impressive than that ?
That back heel into the box for our move for first goal was bloody outrageous . He really had the ex Walsall lad on toast in the first half and the second half they just had to chop him down to stop him resulting in two yellows . As you say he carries on like that …but smart business in a three year deal too.

 

Got to admit I did say when the season ended he was the one player from L2 I wanted us to sign but never thought we would as I thought championship clubs would be circling. To sign him in and then to show that kind of performance today I feel we have a right gem in our hands.

 

I wondered at the time if I'd over estimated too but from my view it looked like a once a season worldy. I couldn't believe he kept it out.
