We await a decision on the triple lock, the very same triple lock the Labour opposition berated the Tories with regards possibly not paying it last April, being the opposition is easy as they are now finding out, I'll repeat this could be Labours poll tax moment, there are many Labour MPs disgusted with this announcement lets see if they have the balls to vote against it, I believe Labour will get rid of the one child allowance and make it a free for all for those who want 3/4/5/6/7 children with others subsidising them, if you want kids you pay for them easy.

So the black hole that nobody knew about has got smaller? :joy:

Exactly what is wrong with politics in one small clip. They'll oppose it if the other side want to do it but defend it when it suits. It's either a good use of money or it's not.

Could only send 9 billion instead of 10 to Ukraine that should pay for the fuel allowance

Labour hate pensioners. From Gordon Brown's insulting 50p a week rise to Starmers £6 a week cut now they have always made the pension the first cut

I think it was Gordon Brown who first introduced the WFA? I could be wrong. Yes the increases to the state pension was laughable. Looks like their are plans to means test the state pension!!

So anyone who has put a little away all their lives for their old age and maybe contributed to a company pension scheme will be penalised for forward thinking, who was it who said "divide and conquer" not "build and unite".
I don't think this is over by any means Starmer may have a massive majority but the decision will be scrutinised once Parliament is back, even challenged by many Labour MPs IMO.

Exactly. Like you I have contributed all my working life. Paid taxes and NI. I also paid into my work pension. I feel for those behind us, I can’t honestly believe that they would call us in for means testing but hey I didn’t think any government would deliberately deprive pensioners the WFA. They could have taken £1.5 billion from just about any other source if governmental income.

I always thought the WFA would get chopped at some point as I thought it was madness that rich people got it and people got it that lived in hot countries. I remember when it was brought in with talk about helping those through a really cold winter when fuel prices were high. Put through quickly so first payment could be made I time for the winter rather than going through the usual process of a lot of back and forth which would have probably have put caps on who got it but because they wanted it through quickly it was given to everyone.

Nye Bevan would turn in his grave. Means testing was humiliating for ppl who deserved better. I won’t be means tested, I will not allow this vindictive government to do that to me. The sheer lack of respect this government has for senior citizens is breathtaking. Money is being wasted on a grand scale in Whitehall, NHS, Railways, Councils across the land not to mention Foreign aid budget let’s attack the elderly, it is easy money.

Maybe if Nye Bevan had have thought of giving those that needed it extra to pay for their winter fuel then he may have done but he didn’t. It was rushed through poorly worked out legislation and that was the problem.

You have missed the point. He was against means testing full stop. The sheer task and expense of trying to separate out different status of pensioners is phenomenal. In other words it is more costly. What is required is that individual pensioners have the option to pay it back into the Treasury. There are ppl who don’t need it. I put mine straight into the electricity account and it most certainly helped to keep us warm. We have a heat pump and like any other person on electricity only we pay extra so ppl on gas don’t have to.

Why would there be a winter fuel allowance when Bevin was around we had cheap coal and millions of tons still under the ground awaiting being mined, only the UK could shut those mines and import it from Poland etc, do these incompetent people ever learn.
This clown Starmer is still perusing net zero immersions to save the world, have a look around Starmer and see other world powers are still building coal fired power stations and to hell with the rest of the world, I get it some one has to make a stand but our carbon footprint is minute compared to China's. India's, and other up and coming world powers.

why not give it to everyone then?

why stop at testing by age? If we are giving it people
If they need it or not just give it to every one in the country. Surely that would be even fairer?

the whole argument that people worked all their life for it doesn’t hold when it is a fairly new benefit. Gordon Brown introduced it just before the millennium

It is well recognised that the elderly are more prone to hypothermia than younger ppl. It is not something you have any control of. It impacted on the NHS and not least more elderly ppl died in winter.

You can delegate authority but you can't delegate responsibility. I'd love to know who owns the agency he's using. Be good if he called them out so other landlords don't end up with them.
