I wouldn't have said McCall.

I can't think of any names off the top of my head but someone recently retired from the pro game at a high level maybe. that's likely to want to see the game played the "right" way.

I'll be honest, it may not be popular but i'd have taken Barton.
(i know this isn't realistic, but Frank Lampard - someone of that ilk would be nice)

 

Main difference being McFarland and Cherry got us promoted, although McFarland was of course from the 4th tier. McCall didnt manage promotion in either league. Parky got us promoted, and led us to a major cup final. Grayson has an unprecedented record of 4 promotions from league 1. Give me success over tippy tappy football, which by the way, wasnt exactly a joy to watch.

He was a novice yet had more points per game that Parkie in league 2. FACT
He had more points per game than Parkie in League 1. FACT

Your love affair with Parkie shows no bounds. Parkie had great cup runs but also had shocking ones too.

 

Can you try and look to the future rather than getting teary eyed over the previous manager that isn't going to come back.

we'll see but I'd be very surprised - if he leaves Bolton a team with a higher budget is likely to tempt him far more than coming back here to work with the very owners he couldn't get away quickly enough from.

 

How was McCall unlucky in league 2. He was given a very good budget to have a right good go, got off to a good start in his second season, and blew it, and the pressure got to him.

You are right about Parky having good cup runs, in fact the best in all the years I have watched City. McCall didnt have one decent cup run

 

So a manager as you agree with with the best win % since the early 1980s and one that got us to a wembley final in this division unlike PARKIE had tried numerous times before. Football quality is to be undermined as it too much flair and not enough hoof!

Yes but what does that actually mean in terms of numbers? If every team in the league (excluding Celtic of course) has a budget between £1.8m and £2m for example then the ranking isn't particularly important. If there's a large spread then it would be more impressive.

I have read them before. They were good achievements.

The league being significantly weaker than the days of Larsson and Gazza plus the fact that only half of the old firm were present obviously made it easier (once again not easy though) to achieve things that hasn't been done before.

 

In his second season he had the best budget in the league and we were sailing on nicely then he lost a couple and he didn’t have a clue. Ring a bell this season

 

the sheer disrespect shown towards McCall from some city "fans" really is unbelievable.

 

No disrespect at all he was possibly the best player we have had in our history and a great bloke as well.
This is totally about his managerial qualities.

Phil had a few excellent cup runs, but in bread and butter league McCall way out performs better.
