The question of who should manage the team is unimportant.
Until, that is, we have sensible leadership in place at board level.
Mccall is a good manager. Grayson is a good, slightly more proven manager.
Both have been made to look distinctly average to this point.
I don't care who the manager is next season; they won't be the one on trial for me, because it's quite clear the issues are more senior.
Badly run clubs tend to perform badly. Blackpool and Sunderland were in the Prem not so long since.

In pretty much all of McCall's season's the target was promotion - both in league one and league two. Whereas in at least 2 of Parkinson's seasons his target was to avoid relegation or consolidate.
Parkinson also had at least 2 significant distractions in terms of the cup runs. Something McCall never had.
Parkinson's overall stats will always look worse because of his first season and the fact he then had a season adjusting to a new league.
As always with stats then context is important to lead you to the correct conclusion.
That's not to say that McCall should have been sacked for his poor run but the facts and figures comparing the two aren't quite apples and apples.Allotment Bantam, WilsdenBantam, Inspector and 2 others like this. -

Staunch McCallist here, who believes he should have been allowed to see out his contract. Would I want him back for a third go though? Hard to say, but it might be best to just let it be now. There's still a sense of unfinished business, and I would dearly love to see him lead us up the divisions, but I would not want to see a third ultimately unsuccessful attempt at that.
Grayson? Not impressed by the attitude or the performances so far, but it's not his side, and at least he does know football.
Parkinson? Circumstances were right for him the first time around, but would it still work with new owners who are not Lawn & Rhodes?
And that leads me to the real problem here: ownership and its behaviours. What will we have? Current owners with changed behaviours, current owners with current behaviours, new owners with who knows what kind of behaviours -- at minimum two different kinds of manager would come into play.
So whether it will be new owners or the current ones with lessons learnt, Grayson could work; perhaps also someone relatively young and new, who's had success lower down and is looking to move up, might be considered. Luton's Jones would be one example of the type of manager I'd be thinking about.

McCalls tippy tappy had us outside the top 6 on 4 occasions. Twice at the very start of each campaign.
Last year we were undefeated at home with tippy tappy. But guess what we had a squad. An a very decent first 11.
Everyone knew at the start of the season players replacement was not to the standard leaving. Yet some blamed McCall not the recruitment. Now the proven manager has done little to improve. Guess what its the players fault. Ha ha
Wake up its the head coach fault!

I was one of Parky's biggest fans, and Grayson was always my number 1 choice to replace McCall.
Without a budget to match the likes of Wigan and Blackburn, for example this season, their style is more suited to bringing success to Bradford City in my opinion. Mo matter what you may think of the owners, they are never going to realistically spend the type of fee and wages to bring the best players like Bradley Dack here to be able to play great attacking football and succeed.
I always backed McCall as manager out of respect and love for the man, but I was still one of very many who didnt want him back for a second spell 2 years ago, when Parky left.Bantam Boy, Nick_W_, Inspector and 1 other person like this. -

- The window opened 1st Jan.
- Goal Keeper and Full back are required pronto! If we are serious and in fact ready.
- Injury hit team after Fleetwood win. Yet 1 point behind Blackburn
- Yeovil disaster - No fit fullbacks
- Hendrie gone, McMahon on strike
- Rahic speels about being automatics is not outwith our aim
- Defeats follow and yet no activity as we use square pegs for round holes.
- Rotherham defeat- Kilgallon says it as it is. Crowd turn on Edin.
- WooH the game of poker Edin spoke about shows its hand as recruitement arrives.
- 1 week later, we sack the manager.
And to follow. We know what was to follow.
So was the game of poker Edin spoke to the T&A about early January worth it? To save a few pennys!BCAFC LEE, Bronco, Ricc and 1 other person like this. -

If the recruitment team (Abbott/McCall) are useless at judging players and bring players that are not able to play at the level required then even the best manager in the world would struggle to get them to compete,
What we need now is a clear out of players that are not good enough and a manager who can judge players that can play at this level and above and a board to back him with the means to acquire them, Although it is always tempting to go for the young new coach who may bring success or not the smart move is to keep Grayson happy by giving him the tools and resources to rebuild the playing side for the futureInspector, Nick_W_ and RonnieBrown like this. -

If you are so hell bent in these stats being so important, can you answer me this. Given that Peter Taylor had a better win rate than Parkinson and Jewell and quite a close win rate to McCall over 2 spells, would you rate Taylor as a better manager than two of them names? Simon Grayson could win his last two matches and his win % will increase quite a bit, it will still be meaningless though.
Personally I think it's more important to judge managers on achievements, but maybe that's now an old fashioned view.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...Allotment Bantam, marshy77 and Nick_W_ like this. -

Sorry Bronco, but if we had made some tactical changes in January rather than sulking about not getting new players we might still be up there. Dieng at RB for one, Vince at RCH for another. Devine and Law in midfield. Robinson on one wing, Patrick on the other.
This league (outside of the top 2/3) isn't technical enough for silly formations. When Parky was in trouble he drilled his 442 into the team and got out of it. Stuart brought on his own down fall with his tactical naivety rather than a lack of signings and injuries.
All we needed was to pick up points against the dross teams of Wimbledon & Northampton & Oldham and we'd have come out of this run without the need to change manager. Only one person to blame for Stuart losing his job and it's not the owners, it's SM.
When Stuart was here first time I thought he'd made a massive mistake by appointing WJ as assistant and that had let him down. Looking at what WJ is doing alongside Bruno at West Brom I've changed my view, Stuart is too stuck in his ways as a manager. The players he signed were generally too small for this league of giants and his formations were so baffling that Simon Parker struggled to work them out most of the time.
Grayson isn't exciting me as a manager but if he plays 442 and gets some power into the team I'll take him over the fairy tale appointment every time.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Dieng a RB? He played RCH last year away at walsall and that confirmed to me he should never play in the back line again.
Devine and Law in midfield? Don't get me wrong I like Law but the bloke can't tackle. Why on earth you would have him and a player who's barely conference level as the heart of our side is baffling.
Patrick? He should be nowhere near the first team.
Callum Guy came to us having played last year at RB at Port Vale once. Yet McCall was probably told he was more than good enough in that position. You know by the same person who openly admitted to lying to McCall about Robinson being able to play LB.Morley Bantam, Urban Soldier and Bronco like this. -

Good points @River_City_Bantam. Lots to be decided in the coming days and weeks, both on and off the pitch. The bottom line for me is having the funds to run both sides of the business. We’re a biggish club in terms of fan base only, but don’t have a pot to pee in. Whoever is here next seasons should be given a competitive budget to spend how they see fit. The owners set the budget, the manager spends it (within reason).
