Not if your contract expires during the season outside a window, that is why they all expire when they do

This season has to finish. I'd stop people with other health issues from coming.

Anyone over 50 (happyclappers) barred :brig:

There for more seats where rest of us can be a meter apart :joy::joy::joy:

This season is done I suspect everyone will just stay where they are and we'll start again when this is over. To be honest I think we'll be lucky to see any live football for well over 6 months

Interesting article from david ball in the t&a this morning. The A league has got every team in quarantine in Sydney and are playing games behind closed doors at 2 grounds in the city. Wouldn't be surprised to see the PL come up with something like that.

So Bradford City 4 points behind a play offf place and then get told they have to stay 9th.

Do you realise that clubs get more money the higher they finish?

The season isn't done at all even if we have to wait 6 months.

You just are not getting it. Why worry about starting something when you haven't finished something. Makes no sense.

No, they don't in the EFL; only in the PL

No. The solidarity payment from the PL TV deal and the share of the EFL's own deal with Sky are shared evenly across all clubs within each of the three divisions

Suppose if a team finishes in a play off position then they will generate more tv money etc.

I can only see the season being ended prematurely because unless they
play games behind closed doors, which will still incur costs for the clubs,
the risk to fans will be too high.

If they concede everything ends as it is we miss out, but in fairness we don't
deserve to go up so if they don't want to screw up next season aswell, they
should, for safety reasons, call it a day for this season.

That'll help half the championship clubs paying 20 grand a week for their players.

It's not though is it? Clubs in mid table with nothing to play for will happily release some of those players, why should they continue paying for them when their contracts have legally ended?

Then others will want to keep their players but FFP or general finances may restrict that.

Both add up to spoiling the integrity of the competition and allows some teams an unfair advantage.

This is what Rick Parry, chairman of the EFL said earlier today ..

"The idea that this is going to be neatly over in June and next season starts in August, I think is wishful thinking. I think there's going to be a knock-on effect for 18 months so we need a lot of flexibility"

It looks like he's not expecting an early resumption of this season's games and placing some doubt about when next season might commence. For those who believe that normal service will be resumed shortly, I suggest you heed Parry's words.

There are certainly far more important things than footie at the moment!

From what I am hearing within the NHS I doubt we will be commencing any football within 3 months. The shit has yet to hit the fan.

Blimey my postie told me today the royal mail is being asked to come and do home shopping deliveries within the next 2 weeks.

    Not up to the NHS.

The country won't be able to continue like this today in 3 months. If we reach Italy levels then we have failed in combatting this.

Unfortunately, the bad news is we have exceeded the death toll Italy had when they were at the same stage, though it's been very, very similar to date.

Doubly unfortunately, we also appear to be less well equipped.

    Hopefully this slows down.

Similar viruses in the past haven't been particularly resilient, SARS declined rapidly at a certain point, and by appearances (I use that loosely) the coronavirus hasn't hit back fully at cities or countries that did manage to (allegedly) get it under control.

One of two scenarios is likely:

    1) China suffers post-lockdown with a resurgence, which is what Western scientists seem to be guessing might happen

    2) The Western world made really bad decisions in planning for the virus to spread in the first place

What's always grated with me is that we've sort of gambled on a worst case scenario thus making it a self-fulfilling prophecy. This will have been a disaster of epic proportions if the Eastern nations don't see a resurgence. We've literally let this virus spread for no reason whatsoever.

The really bad thing? It's no use hoping for either scenario to be right...
