You've done well there. I've spent hours trying to get a supermarket delivery. Got full baskets on Morrisons, Asda and Waitrose sites but can't get a slot. Best I've managed is one click & collect at Tesco in Great Horton Road, three weeks ahead.
    Any tips?

After all the rain, finally able to get in the garden. Some serious cutting back required.

Playing guitar, mandolin, banjo, dobro to my heart's content. After decades of winging it I want to finally knuckle down and learn some serious music theory. Probably won't happen though.

Learning a load of songs to sing and play at at my son's wedding in August, if it goes ahead. Sadly, my daughter's wedding that was to have happened at end of May has been postponed.

Continue Whatsapp discussions with @Bigrod@Bigrod about our shared obsession with good quality shoes. Sad men that we are.

Lots of WhatsApp discussions and Zoom virtual meet-ups with my kids and various groups of friends.

Go out for a walk or run each day.

Watch series 2 of Sex Education on Netflix. Hilarious, insightful and generally brilliant.

Most of the main supermarkets open one day's slots at midnight on the dot. With some you only have seconds to secure a slot before they are all gone. Typically the slots they open up are for a day approximately three weeks ahead, although it can vary between supermarkets.

    1. Always book your slot first; you'll then get two or three hours to add items to your basket and 'complete' your shop.
    2. Even better, you can go back and amend your shop up to a day or two before delivery. So that means you can delete items and others according to your needs.
    3. People are finding lots of items are unavailable so, unless you are very particular, tick/untick the boxes to say you will accept substitutes (i.e. similar products, e.g. No Lurpak, so they send Anchor butter instead).
So, for me, it's case of a midnight attempt, across all the supermarkets, approximately once a week. If I fail on the first night, then try again the following night and so on.

Having said that, a lot of local shops and suppliers (e.g. butchers, bakers, but no candlestick makers) are setting up delivery services and these seem to be easier to access than the main supermarkets.

Ironically, it is proving a lot easier to get beer deliveries around by me and I'm currently expecting a beer delivery shortly.

All this online ordering is a bit time consuming but, then, time is something most of us have got plenty of at the moment.

The butchers near me is delivering which is brilliant but it's 3 times the cost of a supermarket. The quality is fantastic and it's locally sourced and all that but economics dictate sadly.

    Day 6
    Stocktake:
    • Fridge - Desperate
    • Freezer - Good
    • Cupboards - Good
    • Beer - Good
    • Wine - Good
    • Whisky - Good
With the fridge depleted, meals are going to start getting a bit weird until, hopefully, I get my first delivery on 6 April (Day 17).

Signed up with the Open University today (short free courses) and have scheduled regular learning slots beginning next week.

    Morale - still good.

The most worrying thing in the food parcel was the sliced loaf, which has a best before date of 2 April 2021.

It's a white sliced loaf; by April 2021 I suspect it will be somewhere between green and black.

The Izal probably has more nutritional value - and would run the spam close for taste.

That's a very good idea, and not bad in terms of the goods -- admittedly light on the meat, but otherwise will keep body and soul together.

I don't suppose an Irn-Bru run would be 'essential' enough for the guards to let you across the border at the moment, but there's generally some to be found here in southern Ontario!

What area of Ontario are you in? Got a friend who lived in FontHill and now lives in StoneyCreek.

St. Catharines -- bang in the middle of wine country, which suits me perfectly! I'm just about to head over to Fonthill, would you believe, as I'm going to a farm shop just down the road from it, in Fenwick, to pick up some eggs and veggies. They just sent me an e-mail saying my order was ready. As with many wineries, call them up or put in an order online, pay in advance at the same time, and the same or next day head over for contactless pick-up. Very useful, especially in these times. Stoney Creek I know reasonably well, having also lived in Hamilton in the past.

Probably a bottle of stout in there - old people love a drop of stout. Full of iron.
