Ripper.
Very well made documentary. Went a bit down the feminist route towards the end, but that was an eye opener in itself. I was only a lad when this was going on, so can’t remember the protests etc. Doesn’t paint the police in a good light, but after watching, I have to say I agree. Bumbled from one murder to the other. Would like to think if ever there was such a case today, modern policing would prevent so many deaths. -

Watched the first series of The Break on Netflix. Belgian crime drama. Nothing groundbreaking, but decent enough.

Watched the Jack Charlton documentary on bbc2 last night.
Recommended.
Sad and yet uplifting.
Little was mentioned about his time at leeds- in case you are squeamish.
One thing though, never made a Sir like "our kid" or geoff Hurst.
ALL of the starting eleven should have been knighted by now, either living or post-humously.

Recently watched series 1 of the Danish drama The Killing starring the mesmerising Sofie Grabol. How good is she.
Subtitles previously put me off watching. I have to say though, once you get used to it, after maybe one episode, you do overcome that, and it was a compelling watch and actually enjoyable listening to the Danish language making it more realistic.
Started Series 2 this week -
After that, I fully recommend the Danish/Swedish co-production The Bridge which is another top quality Nordic Noir. It does mean its part in Swedish and part in Danish but the languages are fairly similar so you might not notice the difference that much
Slightly different but equally as good you have Borgen which is basically what you get if you take The West Wing and House of Cards and sprinkle it with that Danish style you get in the killing.
If you have AppleTV+ (or you know how to Pirate) then Tehran is a really good political/spy thriller. Although it decided to trump The Bridge and this is in Hebrew, Persian and English. And it seems Jews speak very quickly when speaking Hebrew so it can take an episode just to get used to realising when it's Hebrew and not Persian and speeding up how quickly you read the subtitles or you can miss thingsStop hovering to collapse... Liked his very first thing he did drama wise which was the CBBC 'one and done' show Dark Seasons (Which actually filmed much of it in houses in and around the square I lived in when it was filmed in 90 or 91. We would actually hang around with the child actors between takes. I wonder whatever came of these actors, I think one of them was called something like Katie Winslet, she didn't seem to go on and do much ), The Second Coming was a masterpiece at the time (not sure how it would stand up in today's world, I remember the time everyone though Casualty was a top-quality serious medical drama until ER made its way over the sea and made people realise it was little more than a cheap soap opera) and he made Doctor Who something I never really got to one of my favourite shows (And Torchwood was equally brilliant, especially Miracle Day) and Casanova was great but all too often it seems he has that same issue that Ryan Murphy of Glee & American Horror Story fame has as a gay showrunner and that's he can be too prone to letting him tell everyone 'I'm gay don't you know' by basically making the campiness derail the story (Even at time DW and TW fell into that trap).
The strange thing is RTD has the ability not to have to do that, Queer as Folk was able to tell a gay story without doing that and as such it was accessible no matter what your sexuality rather than feeling like something you have to be 'in on the joke' to get anything out of. So basically even if It's a Sin was more Queer as Folk than say Cucumber/ Bannana/Tofu I wasn't willing to waste an hour checking out an episode having been burnt by him on TV with gay issues at the heart beforeStop hovering to collapse... I actually downloaded the book onto my kindle a few years ago and never got around to reading it either, even though that's in English.
I downloaded The Bridge last week to watch so will watch that soon too for sure. -

2 programmes got me engrossed recently.
I am a killer, on Netflix. First hand accounts from killers on death row. Very eye-opening either way for those for and against capital punishment.
What we do in the Shadows, on the iPlayer. Dark comedy with Matt Berry. Took me a while to get completely into it, but once I got to know the characters I was laughing out loud. -
Don’t look up, Netflix. Black Mirror, apocalyptic type film, with Leonardo Di Caprio, Jennifer Lawrence and Meryl Streep. Very good, I thought. Although probably a little extreme, it’s one of them where you keep saying to yourself, I can see that happening.

Watched that Don't look up on Netflix, not as good as the hype imo although the take on governmental and people behaviour is scarily realistic even though it’s a black comedy.
