Another curate's egg, for me. I certainly prefer it to Physical Graffiti. Excellent stuff like Over the Hills.., No Quarter and the Rain Song, but spoilt by D'yer Maker and The Cringe. I'm not mad about Dancing Days either.
I bought it when it was first released. I remember being quite disappointed, but then getting to like it more. Buying vinyl albums was really expensive for a 17 year old kid in 1973, so you didn't give up on stuff easily! Many is the record I've started out not liking much, then learning to really love - Katy Lied (Steely Dan) and Fireball (Deep Purple) are two examples that readily spring to mind.
The first four Zep albums, especially 2 & 4, have a consistency of songwriting, arrangement and playing that they never again attained, to my ears.

With you on Katy Lied, I think it was the change in mood that threw me at first, little more "jazzy" after Skunk Baxter left.

I think it's their most underrated album. Much better than Royal Scam, which everyone seems to love but I've never been a massive fan of. When I went to New York about ten years ago we walked down The Avenue, past Radio City. Sadly, I wasn't wearing Bad Sneakers or drinking Pina Colada at the time.

Me and my mate Phil had tickets to see the Dan at Southend Kursaal when they were due to tour here, around the time of Katy Lied. Don Fagan got laryngitis after the first couple of dates and the tour was cancelled before they got to Southend. Then they became a studio band and weren't seen live again for decades.

I saw Fagan and the Dan in Manchester, on their tour here a few years back. Of course he was the only original member, but they were superb. Steve Windwood as support act wasn't too shabby either.

Have you ever seen the tribute band, Nearly Dan? They are amazing. If you ever get the chance, go see them. Brass section, backing singers, the full Monty. They usually end with My Old School, which always blows me away.

Foo Fighters doubling up as a Bee Gees tribute act is a strange concept that oddly works on that particular track

Gary Numan unplugged (almost). Love that. Great version of one of my all time favourites. Never heard it before. What's the AllSaints connection. Is it for an ad?

I suppose it is publicity for the shop/designers; that was from 8 years ago, and I see they are still doing these sessions. There is some "unplugged" Numan around now on Youtube...lockdown specials! Gary on his couch with an acoustic guitar, going over a few songs. There's a sweet version of "Down in the Park" with his daughter Persia doing backing vocals -- basically the synth bits between verses!

His latest stuff is growing on me -- "My Name is Ruin" for example. That too has Persia on backing vox, only done as a pro rather than just humming along to dad's playing.
