Not convinced by this one. But then, I wasn't convinced by Swan, Tilt or Power and they've been excellent, so it's probably a good sign!

 

He hasn’t even been getting games for a struggling Orient side. Strange one this!

Hopefully it wont take him long to get back to match sharpness, but he was out injured for about 3 months and then Orient had already a settled midfield bulk by the time he got back to fitness.

 

Obviously he thought Orient would be up there and we wouldn't which makes sense tbf

 

Seems to be able to produce a nice turn to leave his opponent as well. Some of the passes shown here very clever.

 

I have a colleague who is a NUFC fan and he rates this guy. Let's give the lad a chance and see how he actually performs before writing him off

Yes, he seems to have a range of passing that we don't have and could do with. If I was Humphrys or Swan I'd be thinking I could get some goals here.

 

I'd feel a lot more confident if his 'reel' wasn't mostly filmed in a park.

 

He had a choice. Team A) a beaten po finalist and tipped to be up there again. Team B) Just promoted and tipped as strugglers.

 

In terms of profile, he's never been involved in a Newcastle first team game, so he's clearly not on the fringes there, given he's 23. I think we should be aiming higher, but this could be a try before you buy kind of thing.

 

We saw from the FA Cup game that the gulf in class between PL teams like Newcastle - playing in the Champions League, stuffed with full internationals - and L1, is absolutely cavernous. Look what a half strength Man City team did to Exeter.
So, even though Joe White couldn’t get anywhere near the Newcastle first team, he could still be a very good player at our level. I think he will provide something a bit different, creatively. Looking at his highlights reel, he clearly knows how to thread a pass and that is something we’ve been sorely lacking all season. Our passing accuracy is shockingly low. He should hopefully improve that and reduce our reliance on the hoof.

Out of interest, what type of player - realistically in January - do you think constitutes ‘aiming higher’ for us. Not having a dig - it’s a genuine question.

 

I think this could also be good for Kav who can finish pretty well.

Likewise Jenson Metcalfe never played for the Everton first team and he’s one of our best players now. I know he sat on their bench a few times, but he was never trusted to come on - and Everton were a far worse team than Newcastle when he was there.
