Things like this can only be done with self policing from fans. Everyone has a phone nowadays. Take pics or film then can post it. Unfair that the home side has to pay extra policing costs due to us

 

When I go away to watch City, I go to watch the match, not film other people. Every time one of these flares or smoke bombs has been set off I only see the result it after it has happened. If someone is going to film it, it either needs to be the police, a steward, or someone from City.

 

Couldn't play for anyone else this season apart from Us or Swindon now

 

Disagree with your post massively. An away goal is a rarity as it is, I certainly ain’t going on a 230 mile round trip to miss a goal by filming fellow supporters on the off-chance I’ll catch one of them discreetly letting off a pyro! That’s what the police and stewards are being paid for, it’s in their remit. If they can’t sort it out then expect a smoke bomb at every away game when we score (for clarity I’m not agreeing with the culprits btw)

Have to agree that it is the responsibility of the club to make sure this stops - hence why the club are fined, rather than the travelling fan base.

@wetherbywhaler, is it time to designate someone to represent the club in the away end to collect the necessary information?

Two away games ive been to this year and taken the daughter whose eleven. On both occasions ive been searched and the lass had her bag checked, now to generalize , but shouldnt the searches be down to the more appropriate? Me and the kid or the 20 scroates in fake stone island behind me? Im not against been searched as its a given these days but lets be consistent. @wetherbywhaler rbywhaler can the club give an order for all fans to be searched on entry

If it takes them 20 minutes extra for them all to get in then so be it, how big are thewe smoke bombs are they fairly easy to secreet? Dont just take it off them either, theyve intended to break ground rules so refuse entry.

 

To do that at home you'd be looking to get everyone at the ground by 2pm at the latest so they would get in on time for kick off and if you was stuck at the back of it you would say the club needs to sort that out then. It's a no win situation but I'm sure in time those bringing smoke bombs / flares will get caught. Then they will be dealt with.

 

I recall one away trip, I think it was Scunthorpe, where the stewards had sniffer dogs. I believe some clubs (Liverpool?) have them present all the time. I don't know how expensive it would be for City to deploy them at away matches considered at risk @wetherbywhaler ? If they were used and did catch someone trying to get in with one I would hope they received a ban.

 

RE home games, you wouldn’t need to check fans in the Midland Road (many older families), family stand (younger families) or Main stand (older fans) as much..... the Stone Island types who get off on these things are more likely to sit in the Kop - so double up the searches there and target the younger lads going in there for the ‘atmuffsphere’.

 

Personally they don’t bother me at all but i do accept that they are banned from football arenas. If you really want to check where they get in then look no further than the schooligans. Although these things are very prevalent on the continent and South America its a fairly new phenomena in this country. There are you tube sites specifically set up to show pyro shows and this is where the youth seem to spend every spare minute, i know my lad does. And its not hard to spot them going into the ground, they all dress and walk the same. Not really sure how you stop it, the pyro obsession seems to be getting bigger every year. Not sure it even works over here, i’ve been to games in Europe where it does actually add a dimension to the atmosphere.

 

is there a decent match report for this game? Been on the drink up Newcastle all weekend so not seen anything

Doesnt seem to be an issue at home games though (smoke bombs), they tend to be more prevailant away. Average crowds of 1000, wouldnt take much whittling down to 100 or so proper searches

 

Barnsley away last season as well, full search and sniffer dogs. Think the club put out a statement the day before as well advising sniffer dogs would be used, and guess what no smoke bombs let off!!

 

Well it is the young lads that are obsessed with pyro and flares.

Such types have no interest in sitting in the main stand with the older fans and they don't sit in the family stands, they go to the back of the Kop where the noise is and they get a bit rowdy.
