I think obviously there would need to be exceptions and that would be one of them. That you must be an EFL club to qualify.

It’s a similar scenario for arguments sake that if a PL club wins the Europa league but finish mid table in the PL, they take the CL spot from the team finishing 4th.

Then the competition remains pointless and will continue to be poorly attended

I'd rather that than your idea be implemented.

Ah well, we'll probably all survive. In reality, the competition was dead from the minute they allowed PL teams kids to enter it, regardless of the 10 pieces of silver that clubs are given to share out.

I don't think 10k would suddenly turn up to bradford v Ipswich u21's just beacause of the possibility of a play off place :x3:

The FA cup and capital one cup are not very well attended compared to league games unless you get a decent draw.

Funny how things have turned around……..

Back in the day , the FA Cup was the be all and end all of English sporting competition eagerly awaited by all football fans. Even the early rounds in the old 4th division “seemed” to attract big crowds eagerly anticipating a giant killing act or a visit from the “ big boys” in round three.

    What changed?

    Live FA Cup games?
Man U , the arrogant shites dropping out because it was “ beneath” them?
Too many irrelevant “ competitions” added to the calendar?

Eh? You wouldn't rather see Everton U21s in the league one play off final?

The competition is pointless and we all know it
Very few can raise any interest and if we reach Wembley, how many would be really excited to go for this.
i think in all its disguises, i have attended 2 games. Wycombe last year being one and then only because my lad fancied.
You can poor as much glitter as you want on this turd, it will never shine.
The only reason City enter is the PRIZE money. £40000 for wining at Villa i believe, oh and 2 and 6 gate receipts after expenses
Time to scrap it and go back to a reserve leagues, so fringe players actually get regular games or injured players gain fitness, regionalised and possibly bring in clubs from the national league, to make up for the silly under 21/23.
Why should we help develop their young players, when they treat the rest of the league with such disdain

Funny enough, the big teams, who apparently aren't interested, do very well for crowds in the two cup competitions. The big fan base ensue that demand even for these remains high no matter who they play.
The rest of the sides however is a different matter.

We help develop their players because it also benefits us, otherwise we wouldn't do it. Subsidised wages and the like for cash strapped clubs is a big dangled carrot. I'd like us to develop our own players but that's impossible in how football works now.

Again this is another sickness of our current football system, where the big boys are allowed to hoover up all the talent , to the detriment of the so called lesser clubs.
Only to drop most of these kids once they do not make the grade.
Nothing we can do about it, Turkey's wont vote for Christmas.
1 vote per club in the football/ premier league, would be a good start on all decision making and decision's legally binding.

To be fair in all my time watching City we've never really nurtured much of our own talent. Even back in the 80s players like John Hendrie were brought in from outside. I do agree with your general view though, the trawler net approach from teams like Man City and Chelsea is annoying but then what parent wouldn't want their kid to go one of the bigger clubs as a kid? It's just the way of the world unfortunately and is the same in every major sport.

Do you remember the time when the playoffs were introduced and they told the 3rd placed team they’d no longer be promoted automatically and that a team finishing 6th maybe 20 points behind them could take their place?

I remember that they had a valid reason re fixtures .... similar to Liverpool playing a 3rd team, full of juniors, at Aston Villa in the FA Cup, not long ago

This happens when you are Champions of your own league and/or Champions of Europe

When do Wrexham and Bolton play their quarter final?
The semi dates are scheduled for 18th Feb so if we draw either of them, when are we likely to play ?

Not sure which of the two teams is causing the delay? If the next round is due to be played 18th February, then the one who is delaying it should forfeit the tie. Had a look and neither of them appear to have a mid week fixture this or next week, and Wrexham’s match this weekend has been postponed.

So they should be instructed by the EFL to play this fixture on the 11th/12th and then the semi on the scheduled date or like you say, throw them both out

A third option would be to throw out the club which is causing the problem! I suspect it is one and not both.

It was Wrexham. They had a league game with Shrews moved to a Thursday night the week of the R16 in the middle of Jan. So they have been a round behind since. Wrexham vs Bolton is next Tues, I bet the draw is this weekend during the Sunderland vs Watford midday game on Sky. Peterborough vs Cheltenham is tonight in the other quarter.

Where is it confirmed the Wrexham v Bolton game is next Tuesday?
