The Vertu Trophy Quarter-Final Draw will take place live on Sky Sports Football on Saturday 18 January in the build-up to the South Wales Derby between Cardiff City and Swansea City.
City could face either Rotherham United, Bolton Wanderers or the winner of Port Vale v Wrexham.
Quarter finals are still regionalised into North,South.
Ties to be played week commencing 3rd February.

The scheduling of this trophy is a joke. The Port Vale vs Wrexham game is scheduled to take place the same week as the next round!

That game was originally scheduled to be last week but it was postponed for a frozen pitch and unsafe conditions around the stadium. Wrexham play Shrewsbury tomorrow night so it couldn't be played last night then they play Birmingham a week today and Stevenage the Tuesday after so the next available date is 4th February as the league takes priority over this competition and there's no way of avoiding this.

If we do end up drawing them the quarter final match will have to be on 18th Feb when the semi finals are scheduled.

I'm just talking in general. The groups every season seem to start and end at different times every season and every year the knockouts seem to be spread across certain weeks rather than all at once. Was it last year or the year before that all our group had played 2 games before we'd even started? Just seems to be really weirdly organised.

Because games have to be fit in around re-arranged postponed games and EFL / Fa Cup games.
The latter 2 we never have to worry about

The groups are generally scheduled for the 3 international breaks and ideally they would have them all at that time but teams have freedom to move them especially those that will have players on international duty which does make sense as they would be contradicting their own league postponement rules. I think some teams like that they get the games out of the way early whereas it looks like Alexander likes to spread them out and I think it is probably tactical so we know what we have to do and how many players we can rest, it's probably a bit of give and take from the EFL as well so everyone is happy.

This year has been completely thrown by the new TV deal moving 2 Wrexham games from a weekend to midweek. They have a plan for the knock out schedule which they normally stick to bar postponements for the weather but with it being the lowest ranked competition for priority it's always at risk of changing, having a full league 1 and 2 round of games late January which I don't think normally happens has added another complexity to it. There's nearly 2 months between the scheduled semi final and final so there's room to move if needed for the EFL

If we draw either of these on Saturday, make them play the game against us at the same time.
    That should even it up.

Assuming Wrexham might get through, who would we want in next round to give us best chance of progress?
    I’d say Rotherham at VP
    Then Cheltenham in semi
Bolton or Brum in final would make it a decent crowd.

Peterborough won it last year and they could do so again this year. Very good win last night.

EFL Trophy rule 20.5 makes interesting reading:
Notwithstanding that the rule and the guidance seem to have a degree of conflict, there is a provision for Port Vale and Wrexham to be 'thrown out' of the competition if the fixture is not played in time.

No chance of throwing Wrexham out. They are the Golden child of English football, even if they are Welsh.

You are right, if we end up drawn against Wrexham, they would probably use the rule to throw us out, so that Wrexham could play their semi-final on the scheduled date.

But rules are rules otherwise why make them?
If it’s Wrexham’s fault the fixture cant be played sooner than the 4th Feb then they should be thrown out.

Never can tell with these things - back in 2015 I wanted Reading at VP in FA Cup Q/F - got the wish but not the result. I’m just rolling with ‘Que sera’ - sure those in charge want a Birminghams v Wrexham final - hoping that we can disrupt things along the way.

There's no chance they would be thrown out as it's partly EFL rules of prioritising league matches and broadcast schedule which is why the fixture can't be played until it is. The EFL have already agreed to the new date so even if it was a consideration it won't be anymore.

If that happens they will be asking if final could be played in the states like they tried with a league game

A joke comp and adding U21 teams added to it would rather put non league sides in there
