Mrs IB wonders if I'm asleep watching now days, usually she can tell from the next room when we score.

So true mate, usually followed by the Mrs putting her head round the front room door and saying "remember we have neighbours" like at that moment I care, they'll never understand ;).

How does this stand up after the WBA debarcle yesterday?

The problem with the WBA one is that the players are in fairly freak positions that mean there isn't any camera that allows for the system to actually pick the points needed. There could be 500 camera's being used and there will always be a situation that crops up which basically renders them all useless.

If you look at the two best angles
    [IMG]

In this one while you can see Digne's feet and head you can't see his arm which may be the body part nearest to the goal and as its end of shirt sleeve that's important

And on this one, you can see Digne but not the defender's heel.

It certainly looks like he is onside by a decent amount but I suspect if we could just zap the other West Brom player out of there and draw the line its much closer than it seems due to the way the angle causes an optical illusion.

I suspect the only way to prevent the camera angle from having these occasional 'blind spots' would be an aerial cam as a top down view would be perfect, like those Spider cams that they often use in sports like tennis but seeing as tennis players sometimes hit these with the ball I suspect they would be problematic for football

The yellow line is already drawn on the defenders heel is it not? If not what does the yellow line represent?

No they are the default lines that haven't been adjusted to lineup yet. You will notice when they show the VAR decision being made the lines appear which are the lines configured to the camera angle and then they are adjusted to get them to lineup with the relevant body part. If they can't see the body part on the angle they can't line the line up

I see that VAR is being used in a play off final for the first time today. It may be of some interest to City fans, as Millwall's 'offside' goal against us, in the play off final, was missed by the officials.

Given that most were against VAR, when this thread was first started 3 years ago, has anyone changed their minds now VAR is more established?

VAR was supposed to make things more clear.

This week alone Burnley had a penalty decision turned down at Villa that was pretty much the same as the one what was awarded against them at Spurs.

Has VAR really made things more clear or have the errors remained?

No, it's a complete nonsense and ruining the game.

Goal line technology is fine but that's as far as we should go with it.

It's not done Huddersfield any favours. I thought both shouts were penalties

The first penalty the Forest player left his foot in when the ball had gone shocking call.

I didn't think he actually made any contact with the Huddersfield player. Having said that, I think he would have tripped him if the forward hadn't dived first. So it was a tricky one.
The second one looked far more clear cut. The ref was unsighted, but I was amazed that VAR didn't call the ref to look at it.

It was good to see that VAR plays no part in the EFL, and yesterday's final was no different.

NO. We used to argue about unfair decisions and think referees were idiots at times. We still argue about unfair decisions, which seem even more unfair than before, and know for certain referees are idiots at times and have to put up with instantaneous joy removed from goals scored and game delays in reaching the wrong decision. Where do players' arms start and end next season? Will an ear count for offside? Did the defender intend to play the ball as it went through? And how hard will a striker have to kick a defender and go down howling for a penalty before he gets booked for kicking the defender? We've seen strikers kick defenders several times this season and win penalties on VAR. Everybody is still arguing about everything. Just go back to let the ref decide and us wondering if (s)he is an idiot sometimes. I preferred it when we were less certain. NO.NO.NO.

The survey also found that 95 per cent of fans who had experienced VAR in stadiums and 94 per cent who had watched matches on TV with VAR decisions said that the setup had made watching matches less enjoyable.

It's instead of throw ins, bound to take longer and another unnecessary change.....

And football was such a simple game, someone like Tozer who has a good long throw have to kick it or can the player decide, I'd say the long throw can be a better option than a free kick/kick in from the side lines.

It'll never happen. Just like the 60 minute game or the 2 year World Cup they're talking about.

One of the newspapers have produced the results and league table if VAR had not been used, In that league Leeds would have gone down and Burnley stayed up
