Now this has calmed down and going back to the actual program, I think it was universally well received, it appears from people who watched it it has educated them in a way of the time, and it was heartening to hear from people like Bronco who having seen it feel alot more at peace with the events of the day and the guilt they suffered for feeling they couldn't do more. Nearly everyone who passed away did so at the back of the stand, there is nothing more anyone there could have done to save those lost on the day.

If it’s not Stafford it’s Tordoff.

He tried a pile on towards Tordoff a couple of years ago and seemed annoyed/disappointed when not one other poster joined in.

Said he would private message @Rogered Tart@Rogered Tart on info he said he had on the Tordoff thread rather than put his claims on public display.
Another “I’ve got info but I’m not telling anybody” poster who just wants a reaction but is surprised when nobody does.

    Just don’t engage.
    It’s easier.

It’s sad that there are a few still looking for someone to blame, tragic accidents happen and sadly lessons are often learned too late. I’ve still not had time to watch it yet, but my Sunderland supporting boss watched it and talked about how it moved him at length, he used to go to Roker Park in them days which was also made of wood. Not to bore anyone but we both just concluded how lucky we are that we know nowadays that you’ll leave a stadium safely.

Whilst undoubtedly a tough watch, it was well and very sensitively put together imo.
I attended my first years as a fan in the middle 70s with my dad, sat in the area below G Block. What we now know is that the place was a hazard, and the tragedy could have happened at any point in the preceding years. It actually happened when we had our biggest attendance of that season.
No blame attached, just lots of things that could have been done differently, however we were very much in a different world back then.
    RIP

He’ll have had a horrendous day as well. Telling those lads who got us promoted, that they are no longer needed.

He is a classy man, but if he wants to spend a bit of time in remembrance just leave him to do so. No real need to broadcast it.

    I thought that.

“I hope this isn’t inappropriate to share”

But I’m going to do it anyway.

So identifying a poster as a WUM is name calling? I was not happy with @Steampig@Steampig constant drivel and complete lack of understanding about fire regs etc 40 years ago-neither were others. Hope you as a mod have taken the correct action to stifle them for a short while to reflect on their tone on this "very sensitive thread"

Why has it taken this long for contributors to understand that someone came on, who has not commented about any football whatsoever in his/ her forum membership, to realise this person has a narrative, has an agenda and is allowed to continue based on upsetting supporters ? It’s gone on too long …Two or three of us noted what was going on quickly , but hey free speech and alternative facts are allowed to fester .
    Enough is enough admin!

    Please lock the thread eh?

@andyc@andyc I don’t know if you remember Andy, but the groundsman Mick Doyle used to sit on our row in Block C. Really nice guy. He was the groundsman at Avenue at the time and he was thrilled to bits when he got the job at City

I am pleased this thread has returned to being about the remembrance of the 56 poor souls and everyone else who suffered (and continue to do so) that tragic day.
I was there with my 3 brothers and we are blessed we survived with nothing more than emotional scars and heartbreaking memories. We always stood in the Bradford End but a few weeks previously sat in the main stand on a wet day and I remember us commenting about the accumulation of rubbish under the seats - but it was the same at so many grounds, and not just in the lower leagues. In hindsight the tragic events were always going to eventually happen somewhere before serious change occurred.

Part of the reason for posting is to ask if anyone might be able to help - every week in the Bradford End an old boy used to stand next to us. He often brought a little step with him so he could see better, bless him. We always spoke, basic hellos and how are you doing but he was a lovely fella. But at the home game before the fire he told me he had treated himself to a seat in the main stand as there was going to be a big crowd. In due course I was reliably informed by other friends and supporters who used to stand with us that the old boy sadly was one of the victims.

I am certain he always came to the games alone but time has dulled my memory and I cannot recall his name which deeply saddens me - might anyone on here be able to help in anyway? Thank you

My thoughts are always with the 56 but everyone else who was there that day and all the families who will forever be affected by 11th May 1985

The best l can do us provide a link to the list of people who tragically perished. It has their ages recorded. https://www.efl.com/news/2021/may/bradford-fire-disaster-remembering-the-56/

I forced myself to watch the Unforgotten documentary and found it very moving (obviously) and very well produced & edited. On May 11, I was an 8 year old stood in the Bradford End with my best friend (at his first game) and my parents. I've never got over what I saw and heard that day. Thankfully my brain has locked those memories away - my last memory is of the older guys pushing down the fencing at the front of the Bradford End and me/us being helped/carried onto the pitch. I've never watched any previous documentaries as i've never been able to deal with anything related to that event or even that day. I was in the same class as Hazel's daughter from the September of '85 until '88/'89 and could never understand how she coped with it, and having now seen this doc, christ knows how Hazel managed (and all of the other's who were directly involved).

I've now begun watching the ITV 5-part doc and it's equally well done. I suppose i'm using these docs as therapy, 40 years on but better late than never. My father in law was there with my brother in law (obviously didn't know them at the time). They were in the main stand but thankfully escaped relatively injury-free. He was a serving poilce officer, but off duty. He received an award for going back into the fire to save someone. I'd love to talk to him about it, but he never has and never will discuss that day.

I do feel weirdly better having sat through these docs, yet equally more sad seeing what those poor souls and their families went through.
