UNFORGOTTEN : BRADFORD CITY FIRE

Think I’ll give it a miss. There when it happened and still struggle thinking about those who passed away.

The media just like to pretend it is.

 

It is not forgotten by the City faithful, and others who have never set foot in VP since this awful tragedy. However, the wider football community might have.

 

Spot on! I don’t need telling I’ve “ forgotton” .

 

Not looking forward to watching it,brings back that terrible day and are we going to get another dose of Daniel Taylor former Guardian reporter rehash his book again,demanding another enquiry with conspiracy theories about Stafford ?

 

How many Twitter conspiracy theorists will be give a platform and an opportunity to “ blame” ?

Not interested, not watching.

ITEM 3 WRITTEN ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE LORD MAYOR

40TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE VALLEY PARADE FIRE DISASTER

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the devastating fire at the Valley Parade stadium,

which took place on 11 May 1985.

On Sunday 11 May 2025, we will once again gather to commemorate the disaster, which

claimed fifty-six lives and left countless other injured and scarred.

Many people were dreadfully affected, and continue to be so, by the terrible events of that

day. It is always very special to come together, as we do every year, on this most poignant

anniversary to remember, and to pay tribute to, all those who were lost and injured and those

who acted selflessly in the service of others and to reflect on the impact it had across our

community.

At 1100, the annual memorial service will take place at the Bradford City Fire Disaster

sculpture, in Centenary Square and I do hope that many of you will be able to join me on that

 

I won’t be watching it but think it’s important my teenage kids watch it. They know all about it obviously but it’s important, especially in Bradford, that it gets passed down the generations.

 

I'll be watching but understand if others don't, no right or wrong here. Every disaster in history has been covered over and again and the Bradford one is no different, gives neutrals an idea of what people went through and the reasons as to why we hold the remembrance day each year since.

 

The title of the programme suggests the fire is absolutely not a forgotten event.

We pay our respects quietly every year and will continue to do so.

The programme seems to be compiled of eyewitness recollections of the day.

 

I think you were right to do so Tone, I fully expect the documentary to be a fitting tribute to those lost on the day.

 

I haven’t been back to the memorial since I moved over here and it’s something that saddens me. I will be there in Spirit on Sunday

 

Not for me, especially if there’s any finger pointing
It happened, there was an inquiry and it was 40 years ago
Many of the people who where there and involved have since passed away
I was 21 and don’t want to ever witness scenes like that again
Let’s just get as many as we can down to centenary square on Sunday and pay our respects in the dignified manner we always have done

 

Me too saw far too much that day and don't need reminders
Still bear the scars physical and mental
Never missed a memorial service and will get there as long as am able
That's enough for me

 

Did you see the feature about it on BBC Breakfast a few days ago?

It had the director on. His motivation seemed to be capturing the social history from those affected by the fire and he came across extremely well.

Understand completely those who are unable to watch.
