Whats this mythical top three squad stuff? There's no such thing. Last season we had comments from opposition chairman and managers stating that Bradford's squad was too good to go down yet they didn't watch them every week. Names on paper mean absolutely nothing without a clear and precise strategy and structure behind it. If you finish in the top three then that season you have a top three squad for that season.

 

100% agree. If you finish top of the league, I think you have the right to claim that for that season, you had a top three squad. To argue otherwise is disrespectful to the players and their achievement.

 

Their playing budget this season was just over £5.5m.

 

Big budget, spent wisely on a team of good talent and attitude by people who know what they're doing and they win the league. Who'd have though it eh?

 

A team that has a clear vision of where it wants to be and how it wants to get there gets back to back promotions, who'd have thought it eh? A decent run club with a good budget should walk the lower leagues.

 

Generally speaking, the bigger budgets finish near the top and the smaller budgets near the bottom. But that assumes competent professionals are running the show. If you have a wily craftsman whose built a solid base, you can outperform a small budget. And if you have incompetent fools at the helm, they’ll piss even the biggest budget up a wall.

We need to get back to a solid base, quickly. Then we can start looking forward again.

Not sure what the relevance of this is. The man still lives in the local area, are you saying he isn't allowed to go shopping in Bradford, or that he shouldn't be on his phone when he is out shopping with his family?

 

Thanks for the response and for clarifying where your stats came from. I will now reply in kind. I took the stats I provided (although Doyle’s are the same anyway), from Transfermarkt. This, as you can see, award him 1 less goal than the BBC but 1 more assist. Either way, does it really matter? You claimed I had deliberately tried to argue against, but all I was doing was to show that they both scored 7 times from open play (although if I use the BBC stats, it’s actually 7v8 so reiterates my point more so).

I’ve not tried to “skew” anything. I have simply pointed out the fact that Doyle scored 11 times this season in the League and 4 of those came from the spot. Akinfenwa scored 7 or 8 (depending on source) and none from the spot. Yet the latter always gets stick for being “a fat bastard” and nothing more than a cart horse.

 

It means he's coming home, probably on the phone negotiating his new City contract or something. Probably.

 

But that works both ways. Can’t just sling that mud in my direction. We both wrote what we believe to be facts. Is one more valid than the other? Did or did Doyle not score 7 goals from open play against Akinfenwa’s 7-8 goals from open play????

Did he mean top3 budget as opposed to top3 squad? Otherwise I don’t see how he can argue against it, seen as they finished in the top3

 

The wording was top three squad, no mention of budget. We had a top five budget but ended up with the worst squad in the division. The correllation between budget and squad in our case non existent. As Faithful mentioned on the whole a bigger budget does relay to a better squad but not always the case.
