I think the formation is largely irrelevant. For me you should fit the formation to the players you have in the squad, not choose a formation/system and then cram players into that shape.

 

Hopkin and Grayson also had promotions. Were we wrong to question them?

 

I have always thought too much is made of formations.its 11 against 11

I reckon the 11 players we had last season were better than most if not all of the bottom half of league 1. However, if you can't fit them into a system then you've got no chance.

(I appreciate that there were other factors last season, like all the players being lazy cnuts, but you get my drift).

 

Scannel has been popping up on the left, but the majority of the time he has then cut in/back on to his right foot. More often than not that will slow the play down

 

Yes I'm not a fan of it, I'd much prefer a right footer on the right and left footer on the left.

 

Its because it doesn't really work. I think it was the Wimbledon game last match last year, scannell first half on the right terrorised their full back, he had him on toast numerous times but then for some odd reason bowyer put him on the left in the second half and nullified our only point of attack.

It pains me to say but it think we do seem to be setting up for a season of 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 however if we are going with a 3, that 3 needs to be a god damn lot narrower than we have been thus far as I can't really remember many occasions up to press where they have been within 15 yards of each other

 

I feel like you said you disagreed but we're both making the same point? You should find a system that fits the players you have at your disposal, not the other way round.

Initially, I agree. A manager needs time to rework a squad to fit the mould of how he wants to play. Even properly backed, it takes a couple of years.

 

All we need is the skill in possession to overcome opponents and be hard to beat defensively.If there is a system that would support this then bring it on whatever it may be.

Unless we can manage to shift one of the high earners, there appears to be little chance of bringing in a quality battling central midfield player then. Not sure how any of the above can improve our squad to be honest, just filler
