As you say with regards crown green bowling in bygone days parks usually had there own green keeper and it was great rivalry one green keeper to an other who had the best green.
Unfortunatly when money got tight the green keepers moved on and the council took the responsibility but they didn't have the care of the old green keepers, I believe now most bowling greens are cut and maintained by club member's that is the clubs that have survived.

True. It costs and arm and a leg to maintain a bowling green and then you get morons playing football and cricket on them as they do in Lister Park and others.

I'm not an expert but I'd expect that relaying a pitch in winter would be difficult, nigh on impossible - new turf needs the right weather to bed in.

There'll be a range of options. We're not going to get pristine levels of pitch condition all through winter, but we need to look at the bare minimum level of investment and maintenance cost needed to keep the pitch at reasonable, professional standards, and then accept that it's an essential operating cost for a football club.

At this stage we could relay it with turf. Rochdale
I agree. What we might want to is use turf instead of seed in the summer, giving it a nice long warm summer to bed in, but I am not expert, but it would be like giving it a kick start. However, very expensive I would have thought?

Rochdale replaced their pitch in February 2018. Apparently at a cost of £500,000. https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/5571068/rochdale-500000-pitch-fa-cup-showdown-tottenham/

However they then went onto renovate it four months later. https://www.rochdaleafc.co.uk/news/2019/june/pitch-renovations--2019/

Stuart according to the T&A saying he needs talks at the end of the season regarding the pitch. Surely this needs sorting now by the powers that be and a order placed with a chosen contractor. Doing this now may even help selling season tickets.

That is the drainage work done in the 2018 close season, which has clearly proved effective in getting the recent vast amount of rain off the pitch.
The problem seems to be that the club skimped on necessary annual maintenance in the 2019 close season, hence the severe lack of grass on the pitch now.

It's not standing water that's the problem, just the amount (or lack of) grass.

What do other teams do in terms of grass retention/growth that we don't?

Maybe it was birdseed that was put down instead of grass seed, mistakes can happen it does look similar.

Julian has never had a plan ever since he's been involved with us that's why we are the club we are. 1 good year in his whole tenure speaks volumes for his strategy/plans.
