Well, that's according to consumer group Which, who determine your kids wandering round in their 'fake' football kits are funding global terrorism. Quite a tenuous link to genuine garments made in huge sweatshops with salve labour in the far east.
The rise of the counterfeit shirt is an interesting one, i remember seeing them in Turkey 30 years ago and though they weren't bad they were some way off the copies that we see today.

I guess there is a moral dilemma involved but to what extent i'm not sure, as a business practice it is indeed illegal but just like with the dodgy TV streaming services, when costs for these products go through the roof there will always be a market there for these kind of things. And when you see where the money goes for the genuine articles, lining the pockets of wealthy footballers, club owners and huge multi national companies i don't feel any guilt whatsoever paying for a dodgy shirt or TV stream. £75 for essentially a cheap t shirt shows where football has gone in 30 years, a rich mans plaything.

The biggest organised crime groups are the ones that have the power to police.

Why would anyone spend £75 on shirt when they can get one for less than £20 which looks exactly the same barring a it of dodgy stitching?

Make the proper shirts more affordable (£40 max) and maybe people will buy genuine.

A bigger delve, and they’ll find that “reps” have been around for ages. Trainers and watches are big business. More often than not, these are trainers made in the same factory that Nike/Adidas are using. Same employees, same equipment. Obviously some sort of back hand system going on to get a quota of shoes out before they go to the Nike side. Still not cheap at £100 a pair, but cheaper than the £300 Nike outlets charge. Same with watches. If you know where to look, you can order a replica Rolex with fully automatic operating system and papers, for £800. Gone are the days of picking one up from the Africans on Marbella beach for 25€ (tho you still can, but don’t expect it to last). Fragrances also big business, again not your usual knock off Christopher Dior or George Armani stuff, but close to the real thing.
I bought a few England shirts from a Chinese site for £15 and the only difference is the sizing - having to order 4XL instead of a large. The way Nike inflate their prices, it’s no suprise I’m with the masses when it comes to buying merchandise.

My lad went down to JD last week and bought the England shirt for £85. I told him he had more money than sense, but he earns it so I suppose it’s better than him gambling it away or snorting it

His mate bought one off DH Gate for about £28 or something. The badge was much lower than the genuine ones, and it had “Bellingham 22” on the back….he’s number 10 :joy::joy:

The rise of counterfeit goods raises ethical concerns despite their lower prices. While affordability is tempting, it's crucial to consider the impact on labor conditions and potential illegal funding. The steep prices of genuine products may drive demand for alternatives, but it's a dilemma that prompts reflection on consumer choices and corporate responsibility.
