We have an amazing CM who would be just the job for you and if you twisted our arm we would let you have him, Josh Wright would be a great addition for you, Please!!! ;);)

Targeting promotion is arrogance? Should we not be doing that? If not for poor form at the end of the season there could have been 4 teams on 93/94+ points this season. We should be looking at more than that if we want to guarantee automatic promotion.

I'd much rather have our owner wanting us to step up rather than being comfortable with where we are/what we've done.

As @How@How said though, it was a bit of a freak season.
Not heard any certain rumours but I wouldn't be surprised if the following go:
Adam Matthews (RB): We've had since the Premier League days iirc. Was in the Celtic team that beat Barcelona. Been kept out the side most of the season by a CM playing RB (O'Nien) who we signed from Wycombe this season. Big wages I'd imagine so would be good to see the back of him.
Bryan Oviedo (LB): Another from the Prem days, one of our highest earners. Rumours crop up every now and again about Championship clubs being linked. Inconsistent but a good player on his day.
One of Our Centre Backs: We've got a fair few and they're all fairly poor. Ozturk has been the best out of them and he's only played several games.
Aiden McGeady (Winger): Team Of The Year, Sunderland's Player Of The Year. A good offer would see him go.
Lee Cattermole (CM): High earner, possibly highest. Found his level at League One imo but there's been rumours that Championship clubs are after him.

I've probably got it all wrong but those are my predictions off the top of my head.

    Like I said, it's a fine line.

Targeting promotion is exactly what I'd expect from your club but openly stating your aim is 100 points is, imo, very nieve and at best, a bit daft.

All you're doing with statements like that is giving every other team a huge incentive to take points from you whilst setting yourselves up for a huge fall if you don't make it (and the chances are that you won't).

Yeah good chance to get rid of big wages and continue the rebuild under Ross. He will know what he wants now surely.

Hasn’t cattermole been playing with a torn hip muscle for 4 years?

Mentioning Peterborough they are signing some good players and quickly. Already got Christy Pym in net , left back from Newport and a lad from non league.

Everyone always says that about Peterborough though and on paper they are always tipped but usually flatter to decieve.

Maybe this is "their year" but it wouldn't surprise me if they blow it again.

They are pretty consistent to be fair. Usually top 10 and spent time in championship recently.

    Don’t always flatter to deceive

With the money they spend the top 10 is the absolute bare minimum and I'd argue that the majority of their fans consider it failure.

They consistently sell their best players. Not always easy to recover from and they seem to do well from it

Over the years they have had some massive fees for players they have developed, and they are still League One, so the question that has to be asked is whats the point of developing these lads to sell on if you don't reinvest in better players who will take you to the next level.

How else would they be able to compete without those fees? Don’t get massive gates. It’s one way of doing it.

Without it they would have to be bankrolled to the top. Not gonna happen

    Posh £319 per season 7.365 = £2,349,435
    Bradford City £169 15,000 = £2535,000
Both examples are adults as we cant say how many are kids ETC but not a lot of difference the last .
The article beneth says the have generated £21.6 million from the sales of Aaron McLean, Dwight Gayle, Craig Mackail-Smith, Lee Tomlin, Ryan Bennett, Britt Assombalonga, Paul Taylor, Conor Washington,
    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3410088/Peterborough-United-21-6m-profit-eight-players-Southampton-Football-League.html
Recently another £4m in Jack Marriott, Gwion Edwards and Jack Baldwin so around £25m in total, if I was a Posh fan and we were nowhere nearer getting out of League One I wouldst be happy with those sort of figures being generated and nothing like that figure going back into strengthening the squad.

Just when I have come to terms with, embraced even, div. 4 you want to drag me back up into the giddy heights of div. 3? Humph! :brig:

I make it that the range for auto-promoted sides since the play-off system came in runs from a low of 79 (2005/6) to a high of 96 (2017/8). Those were the actual points gained by the lowest auto-promoted side. (If you want to just look at gaining 1 point more than the highest-placed playoff side, then you can take a few points off each end of the range.) The 96 has only happened once in 33 years of play-offs; there are a pair of 94s as well. So as you say, unless it is an exceptional year 90+ should do it.

    I'd hope so.

Can understand what @NorthernMonkey@NorthernMonkey is saying about it being too over the top but for me it's good that he's looking at the possibility of that happening.

I also don't think he worded it as 'target', think it was more along the lines of 'if we want to be guarenteed an auto promotion spot, we need to be looking at 100 points as 90 or 95 may not cut it'. It's in his newest podcast but I'm not going to listen to it all again for a minute long clip.

How do we reckon BCFC will flair next season? Would be nice to see both clubs bounce back up.

If you ask McAnthony I'm not sure he agree's theyre doing well - he sacks his manager every year they don't get promoted. he fancies them as a Championship club.

Cheers! As you know, I do have a bad case of the statistics...

This all made me wonder just how often 100 points is reached. I counted just a dozen times over the leagues since the play-offs came in (1986/7): once each in the first and fourth tiers, and five times each in the second and third tiers. Rather uncommon, therefore, but not unknown. You really need to be winning at least 7 out of every 10 matches to have a chance.

Man. City provided the first tier (Premiership) example -- it is something that they managed it over only 38 matches rather than 46. Your side did it the year we both went up to the Premiership.

As for us, I really don't know what to expect -- so much depends on the movements of players in and out. I'd like an immediate promotion, but I fear it will take longer.
