Summer 2025 transfer rumours

The whole parachute system stinks. At most there should be a 12 month buffer that's centered around non playing costs, and there should be standardised provisions built into all player contracts re wage drops/increases between the PL and Championship. The parachute system SHOULD be a reasonable provision to ensure clubs who are well managed don't face oblivion of they're relegated, but it's actually used to manipulate the landscape and create a financial mismatch. It distorts fair competition.
What's actually needed is systemic reform across the leagues and reduced ticket costs for fans across the board. Never gonna happen though.

Spot on . It’s not doing what it’s designed to do rather it’s being used to protect stupid , one sided largess player contracts ! Totally unfair!

 

For me keeping Crich and Smallwood and S Walker with new deals. Tayo and Khela back on loan. I wonder if Palace have any other youngsters to send us, as they do well here. Love J Walker but would release him.
I’d be releasing Kelly (think Crich is a bit better), Johnson, trying to move on Byrne, try to get someone to sign Smith and Wilson.
Of the young players I’d probably say keep Hadi, not sure on the others-maybe Ibbo.
Signings for me another RWB, two new CBs (think Shepherd will stay at Barnsley), defensive CM to cover/compete with Smallwood, two new strikers. I’ve seen Ollie Pearce from York rumoured, is be happy with that as calculated gamble, and there’s the possibility of Jatta being allowed to leave for a fee with the last year of his contract

 

We've no chance. He'll only join a club that can promise him European football. He's had a taste for it now

 

Can’t believe Adam Wilson is still here, completely forgot about him until you mentioned him. Some of the players we’ve given 3 year contracts to are an absolute joke - Oliver, Tyler Smith, Odour and Wilson. You have to question why we signed them in the first place let alone offered such long deals.

 

Town have published their released list today and it's fair to say from the comments of their fans that they are glad to see the back of him.

 

They seem to believe the released players were told about a month ago that they were being released, so makes sense if Pearson is getting the feelers out early.

Isn't Danny Ward a city fan? Or his family are? Another one released but he is a crock these days.

 

He is from the Shipley area, went to Beckfoot school where my son went, but no idea if he is a City fan or not. I think my son bumped into him on a night out a while back when he was playing for Cardiff. Told him he didn't really enjoy playing football much any more, it was just a job. A definite no.

 

My father in law was Wards cricket coach as a kid, apparently he was very good at both sports. Fairly certain he's said before either he or his family are City fans.

It was a few years back now, but I remember listening to a podcast, might have been Ben Fosters but whoever it was had a fan question on how much players talk footie and he said there's always like 10/15% of lads in every dressing room they've been in that have no interest at all in football, it's just a job to them. Wasn't Andy Carroll like that? There's a story when he moved to Liverpool, they had him take a helicopter down for his medical on on the way he had to read up on Liverpool and Dalglish as he had no clue about anything to do with Liverpool. Years and years back now, we were on Soccer AM and John Ruddy who was a PL keeper about 10 years back was the pro guest. We tried talking to him but he had no idea about anything footy related.

 

I get the impression Oduor is probably one of our 10/15%.

 

I can understand Tyler Smith, came with a bit of pedigree and tbf we should get a small fee given age and Barrow loan. The others were ludicrous.

 

Andy Caroll playing for Bordeaux now, earning £1k a week. Surely loves the game....but might not know his footy. Lampard apparently retired when Luke Shaw told him he had never heard of Tony Adams. Knew he was too old!

Ben White and David Batty are 2 more that hate football.

 

They would say that about any of their released players… I saw the highlights of their 1-4 home loss to Orient last night…Boy are they rank.

 

Wilson has had a very successful season. Hopefully a deal can be done to make his move back there permanent.

sounds like he’s already agreed to stay at City

think he has been exceptional for us

fingers crossed he’s playing for us Next season

 

He is out of contract at palace but they do have the option to extend. I can see a new deal there and a loan back at city for the season.
