Summer 2025 transfer rumours

He’s not injured, he’s had a most if preseason and has been training with us for two weeks already as someone pointed out yesterday . He’s just not game fit clearly, as Challoner hasn’t selected him because he knew he was to be paid off early.

 

We don't know how fit he is. It's been unmentioned in any info released however he has been training with us for 2 weeks as Jamie Raynor told us before the last match so he would be ahead of Kav in fitness based on what GA said about Kav after last Saturdays match.

 

Ask Peterborough. They signed an injured Ben Woods yesterday.

 

They are signing a cracking team for L2 next season. Over £4m spent on that squad so far by all accounts and it's again gambling that young lads end up clicking.

 

I look at some comments on their forum and many suggest the transfer income will soon dry up. They reckon only one player could be worth 1/2 m tops and that’s it .

Club still owes the Canadian Hedge Fund who walked away, £8m and that not including loans to the owner who is allegedly , again according to their forum , is prepping the club for selling. Any income from transfers has already gone to pay off another £8m owed. ( On the back of the fictitious ground sale ( for housing and retail))

This fictitious new ground is further away from fruition now than it was when first announced in 2020.

 

He brings an awful lot what we haven't already got and you'll see.

 

From his podcast last season at times he sounded like they are putting out feelers for buyers. Far more misses than hits with their recruit, certainly since their return to L1.

 

Sounds like Jack Hunt is one of many 30+ free agents training with Sheff Weds still. Speaking to my mates whos a weds fan in the office today, they have a known 6 or 7 players who have been floating around CH/L1 level for the past few years, all 30+ and all might end up getting a deal just because the kids they are having to fill out the squad with just aren't at the level.

 

City and Sheff wed are after former Huddersfield captain Jonathan Hogg who wants to play one more season before he retires , he's 36 and plays as a defensive midfielder.

 

That will be because we're in competition with Wrexham to have the oldest starting 11 in the EFL. One more signing should put us in pole position.

 

I think that this would be a good singing. We have looked easy to carve open through the middle at times, and maybe GA wants an experienced defensive head in there? Could we be seeing a switch to 3-4-1-2 more often, especially away from home?

 

Doesn't really make sense for us? Power and Pattison are our best CM options. Metcalfe the prospect, then Leigh because GA needs to find some value in him. Think we have 1 O21 squad gap left to fill, be weird filling it with a 5th choice 36 year old CM who openly is looking forward to retirement. Go to Sheff, have one last run in the champ fella!

Would be a great signing as cover for power and experience for last 20 mins to come on ,

 

Weve just spent 6 figures on Metcalfe. A 36 year old eating into his gametime doesnt make sense.

This looks like a kneejerk rumour based on 45 minutes last night.

 

Think we'll be ahead of Wrexham by the end of the window, they are about to sign a 21 year old CB from Man City for £8m. And judging from his efforts so far, Danny Ward in goal cant have long left ahead of the young lad they had in net for L1 & L2.

 

Age is just a number eh....if it takes us up who cares. There will be need to be a pretty major rebuild at some point. But we do have a very solid crop of players at a decent age though. Average age of the squad is 26.9 as we do have quite a young bench/fringe and this is minus Oduor, Wilson and Smith.

I really want to see Richards take his chance when he gets it.

 

Last night's starting 11 had an average age of under 29 for the first time this season in the league but we will probably be back to over 29 when Pattison (27) or Leigh (25) come in for Metcalfe (20).

I do worry abit about how long we can keep up performances like last night with an aging side, last season one of the reasons many thought Mansfield collapsed was their older squad and i just hope we don't repeat that.

 

Yeah it's a worry, but it's a down the line worry really. The press is the one, we are on it from the start and i do worry our injury prone lads might struggle when the tues/sat run ins for the winter months kick in. Having said that, I don't think anyone is naive enough to think that Sarcevic will start 30+ games this season, Pattison maybe in the same boat, i'd be amazed if Richards plays 30 times for us.

I think i said it after the Blackburn game but a few others have echoed similar thoughts, it seems for once that the drop off when you think of "next man up" isn't huge in this team? Like if Sarcevic went out for a month, there's enough options to play in the front 3 to not worry too much. If Pattison gets another knock, it's more gametime for Metcalfe. If Humps got a knock there's a lot who already want to see Swan start. The L2 RB of the season cant even get on our bench it's that strong. The central defender drop off is the main worry, Joe Wright looks incredible and Tilt is playing like he is back in the Champ, but Kelly, Baldwin & Byrne will have question marks as to their L1 levels.
