No chance of anyone who lacks pace representing his country 115 times, a number of them as captain and ending up with a knighthood.

CITY are chasing two loan additions to the eight recruits they have already made.

The Bantams have registered an interest with their clubs but accept they will have to wait for an answer.

Graham Alexander hopes the way the loan signings flourished during their promotion campaign will act as a strong attraction.

“Jack Shepherd played a full season in a promotion-winning team,” he said. “Tayo (Adaramola) came in loan at the end of the January window and virtually played every game from then.

“Peterborough signed Brandon Khela and spoke about the big games he played in front of big crowds for us.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for these high clubs to loan out some of their best young players and get that experience. We’re obviously not at the same level as some of those clubs but there are a lot of similarities with the pressure, the support base and arena.

“When they are here, we treat them as one of our own. We don’t differentiate between players.

“Once they’re in the squad, the door to the starting team is open to everyone. It’s not just words; we proved that last season.”

Centre midfield is one area where the Bantams are expected to bolster, although there is understood to be nothing in the rumoured link with Cardiff’s Andy Rinomhota.

There seem to have been a lot of loan signings announced already for other clubs, I don't get why we always seem to have to wait. Surely it's better for the player's development (which is the whole purpose of the loan for the parent club) for them to join their 'new' team as early as possible.

We have no say if or when parent clubs release them. We have specifically targeted two players rather than a list of a few, and GA accepts will have to be patient.

The ones loaned early tend to know , after being told they won’t have any opportunity to develop within the main or u23 squad so they can go out on loan asap. The ones following later are those whose club decide in the last couple of weeks of the window after finalising their own squads.

Pretty sure that’s what MH said once and it makes sense .

Not at all, just pointing out that lack of pace in a player doesn't necessarily mean that he is inadequate.

To me it suggests that the players we are targeting are being looked at by their club with the potential for them staying. Often it can be a domino effect that higher up clubs are waiting for the Premier League clubs to release their players for a move before they allow one of their own players out. Looking at most of the loans done in this league they are either players that the parent club clearly don't want or they are young players like Owen Goodman and Teddy Sharman-Lowe who are young and the only thought it is to loan them out again.

Robbie Blake, another case in point. Not fast, but had oodles of quality.

Fair comment. I don't think Pointon is inadequate, I'm just not sure he can push on much further and as I said I would love him to prove me wrong. Just as an aside - did David Beckham lack pace? I was sure I'd heard somewhere in the dim and distant past that at Man U he always finished top whenever they did the "beep tests".
