Think we got Vernam instead, certainly play similar positions.

I thought I'd have a quick look to see who was out of contract in the summer and was quite surprised at how many players it is:
    A O'Connor
    Novak
    Pritchard
    Donaldson
    Ismail
    Clarke
    Wood
    Hornby
    Huffer
    Foulds
    Sikora
    Scales
    Morris

I'd be amazed if we offered deals to Pritchard, Donaldson and Ismail. I'd also let Novak go. He's an excellent player on his day but he's injured too often and for long periods. I'd rather we signed Andy Cook as his replacement.
Given his recent run of games I suspect Hornby has done enough to earn an extension to his contract. I also think Clarke maybe kept on but have more of a coaching role and only be used as back up if we had a bad spell of injuries.
I'd let AOC go. Not because of any past indiscretions but purely because his form can be somewhat temperamental and I think we could recruit someone better.
I think Wood will stay along with back-up keeper Huffer. I would imagine Matty Foulds will go. To be fair to the lad, our back four have been really settled and given his lack of experience he's only going to get a chance if we've real injury worries. Plus at 22, he should be pushing on by now.
That just leaves the youngsters - Sikora, Scales and Morris stick or bust?

Most of those need to go. If I make an assumption that Novak will be a high earner, I think he'll go. And I'd rather have cook, I think. Scales, Sikora are definitely worth keeping around as young squaddies. We won't keep Hornby and Huffer; with ROD under contract, I think he'll be number 1 and Huffer is more likely to stay as backup. AOC is worth keeping, but he'll be on a big contract too and he isn't worth a top end L1 contract, which is presumably what he was given. Its a decent basis for moving a few good earners on and adding the replacement quality that the squad needs. Novak, Donaldson, Pritchard, Ismail, AOC. That's probably 10-12K per week there, and we're getting very little value for it.

    Wood will leave.

    Novak doubt will stay.

Hornby will get offered a contract and more than likely stay.

Sikora, Scales and Morris stick or bust? Depends! If can't get game time next season then let them go.

Clarke I would let go also. We need another number 10

Would keep Wood and AOC and possibly the young lads. Rest of them aren't good enough.

Agree with you on the keeper situation. If O'Donnell is under contract then I'm assuming he'll stay and I can't see both him and Hornby staying.

Hornby has done well this season and deserves a shot at being number 1 somewhere so fair play to him for his performances and I wish him well wherever he goes.

Chances are that we won't get a better full back than Wood of we stay in league two. With plenty of gaps to fill I think it would definitely be a case of better the devil you know.

The January window was much better than I expected.

The players are good League Two players, they came in and made us a good League Two team.

It's way too early to imagine what the Summer window might bring, but I imagine Turnbull will be planning for life in both League One and League Two no matter what noises come out of the club. That SHOULD mean that some of our targets just aren't appropriate when push comes to shove; but I'm not having the negativity regarding the January signings, we improved on our striker options SO MUCH, and have given ourselves options in most areas - except midfield.

I don't have any worries at this point that we'll get it badly wrong, we're not going for a dopey development squad idea, we're not targeting children instead of men, we seem to be targeting a good balance and I have confidence we'll be competitive next season even if we don't quite get top marks and even if we don't meet everybody's ambitions.

What I'm saying is, I think the days of utter dross are behind us for the time being based on what I've seen, and frankly, that's important.

If AOC isn’t taking too much of the wage bill up, then keep him. otherwise get shot an keep Staunton, Foulds an bring in another Cb for cover. Upgrade needed for the lb spot so keep wood as backup if viable. Novak is a good player but is always injured so he’l be gone. same for Ismail. From the rest, keep Hornby and scales. get rid of the rest

I agree with all of your deliberations here. Except for...I'd keep Matty Foulds on. Unseen, unheard, won't be on a massive wage, no doubt desperate to prove himself when opportunity knocks. AOC has to go. I'm sure he'll find a home at another club, but if we're serious about going up next season, we need better.

Get rid of the lot for me.

Wood should be good enough but he either doesn't want to be here or isn't progressing like he should be so a full clean out to make room for 4 or 5 strong options for the first XI.

We need 2 strong full backs capable of getting up and down the pitch if we’re sticking with the current formation. 2 strong central midfielders who will be starters and a main striker quicker but able to lead the line and hold the ball up.

    Is that you Boris? :p

Jokes aside I agree with your most recent post. Really don’t think he's up to snuff. With Turnbull I think we can get someone cheaper and better! Hopefully this clear out is as good as January.

For what it's worth, I'd be STUNNED if fat Steve Evans still wanted Wood based on this season's performances.

If that rumour had any credibility, he's zero chance of competing with Ogilvie, last year's player of the season at Gillo. If he had his head turned, he might have made the worst mistake of his career, because Evans will drop him like an empty kebab packet.

That's come from the last couple of performances. His passing and crossing, something that used to be a strength, is now all over the place. I won't do a park and try and defend the indefensible so at the moment, with the way he's playing, he absolutely can be replaced.
